๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ The North Kensington Resource Centre is being refurbished!

This will upgrade the building to be fantastic, fit-for-purpose centre for residents. The refurbishment will address some essential structural elements, as well as providing a new kitchen, better storage, air-conditioning, heat pump, fresh decoration, canopy, and an accessible lift.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ This means that we will be closing the centre from mid-September 2026 until early 2027, and that all activity will be relocated or paused during this time.

๐Ÿ† Weโ€™re incredibly proud that Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have been named Employer of the Year at the 2026 Housing Heroes and Women in Housing Awards.

This recognition belongs to a team that works every day to deliver better outcomes with and for residents.

At Lancaster West, we have worked hard to build a team that reflects the community we serve:
- More than 25% of our staff are local residents living in the social housing we manage
- Our team speaks over 20 community languages
- Through LancWest Works, more than 140 residents have been supported into employment since 2021

LancWest Works connects local residents to jobs, apprenticeships and training linked to refurbishment, decarbonisation and neighbourhood services, creating lasting routes into employment rather than short-term placements. ๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒฟโ˜๏ธ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿฟโ€๐Ÿ’ผ

Many residents supported through LancWest Works have gone on to join our own neighbourhood team, progress within the wider Council, or build careers with our contractor partners.

That matters because resident involvement is not something separate from how we deliver services. It is built into our workforce, our decision-making and our approach to co-design.

This award is recognition of the brilliant people across Lancaster West who have helped create a genuinely resident-centred neighbourhood service, and of the residents and partners who continue to shape it with us.

A huge thank you to everyone who has played a part.

๐ŸŒณ NEW PERMEABLE TREE PITS ON STATION WALK & GRENFELL ROAD ๐ŸŒณ

New permeable tree pits have recently been installed on Station Walk and Grenfell Road to support healthier street trees and create a safer, more accessible public space.

๐Ÿ’ง The permeable surface allows rainwater and air to reach tree roots, helping trees thrive while reducing surface water runoff.

๐Ÿšถ It also provides a smooth, level surface for pedestrians, removing potential trip hazards and improving accessibility and safety for everyone.

๐Ÿ’ง Water Saving Reminder ๐Ÿ’ง

With ongoing dry weather and water shortages, a hosepipe ban is currently in place across many parts of the UK.

Weโ€™re asking all residents to help conserve water by avoiding the use of mains-fed hosepipes for watering gardens, lawns, and plants. Instead, consider using:
โœ… A watering can or bucket filled from the tap

โœ… Collected rainwater from a water butt

โœ… Reused greywater, such as water used to rinse vegetables

Every drop counts. By using water responsibly, we can help protect this valuable resource and support efforts to manage supplies during periods of high demand.

What are we doing to conserve water in the green spaces we manage?
- We are using our water buts (which collect rain water) across the estate to ensure we can continue watering gardens where possible and maintaining our green spaces

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping to reduce water consumption.

Thank you for helping to reduce water consumption.

๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ A day by the sea for Lancaster West residents! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ
Last month, LWNT joined forces with the Lancaster West Residentsโ€™ Association (LWRA) TAG and Kensington & Chelsea Volunteer Centre to take 130 residents (ages from 1 to 97 years old!) on a day trip to Brighton.

The trip was supported through the TAG kensington and chelsea council Grenfell Support Programme, providing the opportunity for community memebrs to get out of the area and enjoy a day out. Residents spent time on the beach, exploring the Lanes, going to museums, enjoying the rides on Brighton Pier, and even reconnecting with loved ones.

97% of participants saying it had a positive impact on their health and wellbeing, showing how meaningful these opportunities can be for our residents.

Some of our favourite feedback included:
๐Ÿ’ฌ The fun community atmosphere on the bus. The organisation was excellent.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Our first family day out as we could not afford a day like this. So, thank you.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Sitting on the beach with friends and family. Relaxing with my grandchildren and daughter.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible.

Thanks to all the residents that joined us at Talbot Grove House for a 'Meet the LWNT Team pop-up' event.๐Ÿ”ง

These drop-ins are a great opportunity for residents to speak to the Repairs and Housing Teams to discuss anything related to your home or block.

The next drop-in will take place on Monday 17 August, from 1pm-4pm in the courtyard at Allom and Barlow House and following that we have a drop-in for Walkways residents on Friday 21st August from 1-4pm at North Kensington Resource Centre. We hope to see residents there.

๐ŸŒฟWe were delighted to welcome a team of eight corporate volunteers last month๐ŸŒฟ

Volunteers came from Leo Burnett to spend the day clearing and restoring the Secret Garden in the summer heat, creating artwork for community spaces and provided 1:1 support for residents to create or update their CVs.

Corporate volunteering days like this help us tackle projects that need some extra hands for heavy lifting, and supporting residents to keep their green spaces healthy, clear and provide some additional time, energy and enthusiasm!

The experiences are also meaningful for the volunteers too:
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œThe difference we made to the garden was evident in terms of before/after.โ€
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œWe felt like we made a small impact in the community and made new friends too.โ€
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œIt was so heartwarming to be able to make a difference locally.โ€

Thank you again to everyone who joined us. If you work for an organisation that would like to come and volunteer with us, please DM us and get in touch! ๐ŸŒฑ

This week, refurbishment works at Testerton Walk continued with the er****on of scaffolding and with the installation of the new communal fire alarm system. Contractors also began constructing protective โ€œtin lidsโ€ over the atriums to enable refurbishment works to progress safely; and we are continuing to visit residents of Testerton Walk to prepare for refurbishment works inside their homes.

Amber Construction are working closely with residents to carry out surveys with each of the homes in the block, these are important so we can support you and your households as much as possible. Residents of Testerton Walk who have not yet been contacted about a home visit, should get in touch with us to book an appointment as soon as possible.

If you have any questions about the refurbishment of Testerton Walk, please contact Lancaster West Office.
