Glass Door Homeless Charity

Glass Door Homeless Charity Our vision is a future where no one experiences homelessness in London. http://www.glassdoor.org.uk

We offer advice, shelter and support with our community partners, helping people build a route out of homelessness. As London’s largest emergency winter night shelter, Glass Door provides a safe, warm place to sleep for just under 100 men and women every night in winter -- from November to early April. We are able to do this thanks to partnerships with churches across the boroughs of Hammersmith &

Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Wandsworth. Guests experiencing homelessness can also access advice, food, showers and laundry facilities from drop-in day centres. Glass Door not only saves lives by providing refuge from the cold, we also help our guests build more stable futures.

More than just an office.

For the past several years, we’ve been running Glass Door Homeless Charity out of our office at Argon House in Fulham.

But over time, it’s become much more than just an office. It’s a centralised hub for our essential services from Casework and our Mailbox Service to our donation hub and Winter Night Shelter storage.

From providing a dedicated, welcoming space for Winter Night Shelter Casework Drop-ins, to offering people experiencing homelessness a reliable mailing address, storing essential donations and keeping our Shelter vans stocked and ready to go, Argon House plays an important role in our work.

And behind all of this is a team of staff and volunteers making sure everything is where it needs to be, when it needs to be.

Why join Sleep Out 2026? Hear from last year’s sleepers 💤👇

Last year, our Sleep Out participants gave up their beds for one night to raise funds and awareness for people experiencing homelessness in London.

We asked some of them why they took part and what they’d say to anyone thinking about joining us this year.

💬 “You could lose your job, you could lose your home, your relationship could break up, and that can set off a sequence of events that actually you haven’t got any control over.” - Maria

💬 “I’d like people to realise that even a small amount that you can do might feel like a drop in the ocean, but raising awareness, doing something like this, or giving a donation to people can make a difference. Don’t just walk on the other side, do something about it.” - Caroline

💬 “I’m here to hopefully do my bit and spread awareness of the cause to the younger generation coming through.” - Headteacher

Ready to give it a go?

Women’s homelessness is often hidden and that means it’s often undercounted.

Women experiencing homelessness can face multiple, overlapping disadvantages, including domestic abuse, poor mental or physical health, modern slavery and trauma. Women are also less likely to sleep rough, meaning they are often missed out in official statistics too.

Official government snapshots from six local authorities in England recorded zero women sleeping rough, in contrast to the 2025 Women’s Census which identified 162 women in those same areas. This sheds some light on just how important it is that women’s homelessness is taken more seriously by the government, who continue to undercount women, therefore misrepresenting the realities for women sleeping rough.

We want to give a huge shoutout to our incredible, award-winning super-supporter, volunteer and Sleep Out legend, Rosie! 💜

Rosie has taken part in our annual Sleep Out every single year since it began. While she sadly can’t join us in October this year, she wasn’t going to let that break her amazing tradition!

Instead, Rosie brought her Sleep Out forward and spent the night sleeping out in her own garden.

Her incredible dedication has raised an amazing £1,140 to support people experiencing homelessness in London.

We asked Rosie why it was so important for her to continue her Sleep Out tradition. She said:

“I think it's very important in this day and age when people are struggling with the cost of living, that there are people out on the streets in all weathers, particularly with these Heatwaves which must be unbearable for sleeping. They haven't had a luxury of a roof over their heads & it's even more necessary to raise more money when people cutting back on their donations. That's why I slept out early because I had to have an hip-replacement when I usually do the Sleep Out in October. "

Feeling inspired by Rosie? Join us for Sleep Out 2026 on 9th October at Duke of York Square, Chelsea. You can also take part remotely and do your own Sleep Out. 💤

At Glass Door Homeless Charity, holding space for women and delivering services with a gender-informed approach is crucial to supporting women on their route out of homelessness.

Our third annual Women’s Report spotlights the importance of our women’s spaces and services. It reflects on the experiences of, and challenges faced by, our women guests and caseworkers, and celebrates the positive outcomes of the hard work they achieved together.

In 2025–26, we supported 679 women through our casework service, with 159 women moving into more permanent housing.
