Clarion have misread the public mood and what is their place. There are perfectly good other actual local charities supporting actual residents in need across Merton which Clarion could help.
There is no need to support a charity which supports illegal migrants breaking into the UK, one which in effect supports people smuggling gangs.

Rob Bates, Director of the Centre for Migration Control, said: 'Supporting Care4Calais directly bolsters the financial interests of Clarion. Once migrants exit Home Office accommodation, having been granted refugee status, they will almost invariably look to join social housing waiting lists.'

Thanks to Chris Philp MP for highlighting this, and we too think Clarion should end it's partnership with this care4calais group.

At tonight’s council meeting Conservative councillors will defend the NHS stand up to the disinformation being spread by the Labour party about our local health services.

The Labour government delayed the new hospital programme when they came to office in 2024. This has meant that instead of being able to be treated at one of the best hospitals in London which was due to be built on the site of the Royal Marsden in Sutton, Merton residents will continue to use our existing hospitals which are out of date and offer lower standards of care.

It is a disgrace that Labour has continued to play politics with local health services and this has led to worse health outcomes for local people.

We will also stand up for local motorists and demand answers on why the government has given Merton the lowest rating for pothole repair, even after the last Conservative government gave Labour over £300k since 2023 to fix Merton’s potholes.

A wonderful in Merton, this year hosted in Wimbledon Village for the first time.

Special thanks to our Cllr Max Austin and Nicki Green of The Rose & Crown pub for organising this with Merton Council , and it was a joy to welcome a detachment of Coldstream Guards, plus the Youngs brewery horses.

After the parade there was a fun community picnic, with picnic lunch and proceeds going to the armed forces charity.

Armed Forces Flag raising today at Merton Civic Centre.
Our Leader Cllr Dan Holden attended the event, to support our armed forces and veterans. Daniel is also part of the Royal British Legion Councillor Network and donates monthly to the RBL.

Nice to meet thd various charities and civic organisations here, had a long chat with the council's fostering service, Merton Connected , , Merton and Morden Guild , Alzheimer's Society , , and many more.

There are rides and funfair, food and drink stalls.
