We have received a reply from H.E. The Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, following my letter congratulating on his excellency appointment as Prime Minister.

In his letter dated 18 August 2026, the British 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐫-𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞, highlighting the two countries’ shared commitment to democracy, peace, human rights and the rule of law.

The letter also reaffirms the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦’𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐫-𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞, including in health security, climate action and international affairs, as well as recognising Timor-Leste’s preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2029.

This meaningful exchange 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐫-𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦, and our shared commitment to building a more peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future.
