On World Lake Day, we celebrate the lakes that are such an integral part of Austria’s natural landscape and cultural identity. Did you know there are 25,000 lakes in Austria? Take a moment to enjoy the peace and beauty of Achensee in Tyrol, the region’s largest lake 🇦🇹🏔️💧

Instagram saw it first 👀 We love the emojis we have… but we think it’s time for a few more 😉

🇦🇹 Missing Austria while living in the UK? 🇬🇧

You don’t always need a flight home to enjoy a little taste of Austria. Check out our list of recommendations to explore this summer which might remind you of home!

The Austrian Cultural Forum Austrian Cultural Forum London hosts exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, talks, and cultural events throughout the year, bringing Austrian art, music, literature, and ideas to the heart of London. If you want to meet fellow Austrians, discover new artists or simply stay connected to your roots, this is the perfect place! 🎭

They’re not quite the Austrian Alps, but the Scottish Highlands are the closest you will get to dramatic mountain landscapes and peaceful nature! You can explore hiking trails, scenic lochs and beautiful views… and maybe try some haggis while you’re there! 🏔️

Austrian food is one of a kind, and the UK is fortunate to have some great spots to grab Kaiserschmarrn, Sachertorte, Schnitzel… To see some of our recommendations, have a look at MapYourAustriaInUK on our website! 🍰

If you are longing for an Austrian lake, the Lake District is one of England’s most beautiful national parks, offering lakes surrounded by rolling mountains 🌊

If you miss wandering through picturesque towns and stopping at cosy cafés, the Cotswolds are worth a visit🏘️

This week, Deputy Head of Mission Katharina Rauscher was delighted to visit Jersey, alongside Theo Koller, Austrian Finance Attaché, and the Deputies from Czechia and Hungary. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about opportunities for future collaboration with Jersey in areas including culture and tourism 🇯🇪🇦🇹

The delegation spoke to Jersey government officials about the country’s financial services industry and its economic sector, and also got a taste for its unique natural environment, history and heritage, visiting the Jersey War Tunnels. We thank the Government of Jersey London Office for making the visit possible! 🤝

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Steven Salamon to the Ambassador’s Residence to discuss his book, “From the Anschluss to the Arcades: The Evolution of a Family Store” 📚

We heard about the origins, heritage, culture, the people involved at Wally’s Delicatessen, and the family store’s role in the refugee community and the broader business community in South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Thank you to Steven Salamon for an engaging presentation, Cheryl Dennis, Head of the London Office for the Welsh Government, and to our guests for braving the London heatwave to be there with us!
