🌳 Have You Visited Our Community Orchard Yet? πŸŽπŸπŸ’

Just off Cannell Road, our Community Orchard is looking absolutely fantastic thanks to the dedication of our wonderful volunteers.

The orchard is a lovely place to visit, enjoy nature, and watch the trees grow. If you haven't been yet, why not take a stroll and see how it's developing?

A special thank you goes to one amazing volunteer in particular. Jonathan has been regularly watering the orchard since it was planted. Keeping young fruit trees healthy takes a surprising amount of time and effort, and Jonathan's commitment has helped the orchard thrive. πŸ’š

We're also looking for a few more volunteers to help with watering over the summer months. Even an occasional visit with a watering can could make a big difference and help share the workload. If you'd like to lend a hand, please get in touch or leave a comment below.

21/05/2026

By January 2027, the UK's old copper phone network will be switched off, area by area. For most residents it is straightforward, but for older or vulnerable people, particularly those with telecare alarms, pendant alarms, or no mobile phone, it can be confusing and potentially risky if they are not prepared in time.

PSTN Switch-Off Checklist β€” Actions to Take

1. Start planning now
Don’t wait for a letter from your provider. Preparing early gives you more time and more options.
2. Contact your provider
Ask when the switch-off is planned for your area so you can prepare in advance.
3. Check your home phone
Find out whether your current landline phone will still work after the switch. Older phones may need an adapter or replacement.
4. Check any personal or medical alarms
Contact the provider of any pendant alarms, fall detectors, or emergency call systems to make sure they will continue working.
5. Check your burglar alarm
Ask your alarm company whether your system is compatible with the new digital phone network.
6. Understand what happens during a power cut or internet outage
Digital landlines rely on broadband and electricity, so they may stop working if the power or internet goes down.
7. Ask about emergency backup support
Speak to your broadband provider about battery backup options for emergency calls during a power cut.
8. Write down important phone numbers
Keep key contact numbers somewhere easy to find, including family, doctors, and service providers.
9. Ask for support if needed
Your provider must offer help during the switch. Organisations such as Age UK may also be able to assist.
