Today is National Poetry Day and to mark it, I thought I would share a poem penned by Alexander Wilson, a native to Lochwinnoch who moved to the United States and is now better know for his ornothology.

Address to Calder Banks by Alexander Wilson

Ye hoary rocks, ye woody cliffs that rise
Unwieldy, jutting o’er the brawling brook;
Ye lowering steeps, where hid the adder lies,
Where sleeps the owl and screams the sable rook.

Ye reverend trunks, that spread your leafy arms
To shield the gloom, that dark’ning swells below;
Ye nameless flowers, ye busy-winged swarms;
Ye birds that warble and ye streams that flow.

Say, ye blest scenes of solitude and peace,
Strayed e’er a bard along this hermit shore?
Did e’er his pencil your perfections trace?
Or did his Muse to sing your beauties soar?

Hast oft at early morn and silent eve,
Responsive echo stole athwart the trees;
While easy laid beside the glitt’ring wave,
The shepherd sang, his listening fair to please?

Alas! methinks the weeping rocks around,
And the lone stream that murmurs far below,
And trees and caves, with hollow, solemn sound, breathe out one mournful, melancholy_No.

Although the early signs of Autumn are visible at Muirshiel, some blooms are still hanging on. The weather forecast is good for the rest of the week, if a bit cold, so why not take a walk up Windy Hill.

Check the new additions at Castle Semple Loch! A big milestone towards the completion of the 'Semple Stories, Lochwinnoch's Glories' project in the form of 3 interpretation panels giving a taste of Lochwinnoch's past.

If you are out over the next few days, come and take a look. I will be there with a general 'what's your opinion of history and heritage' questionnaire and I would be most appreciative if you could fill one in.

Heads down, bottoms up to unwrap the interpretation panels which were delivered this morning. Fingers crossed for an easy installation 🤞🏻.**UPDATE** Thanks to Stephen, two of the three panel are in place and the third will be done tomorrow.
