Sunflower Family Nurture Centre

Sunflower Family Nurture Centre Sunflower Nursery The centre is now open for 52 weeks of the year and can provide flexible patterns of attendance, dependant on the needs of our families.

Since becoming a Family Nurture Centre in August 2015, Sunflower provides Early Learning and Childcare to the children and families across the Lochgelly community and the wider local area. We have 2 playrooms, Sunbeams and Busy Bees, for children aged 3-5, which can accommodate up to 50 children in any one session and 1 Early Entrant playroom, Ladybirds, which can accommodate up to 15 eligible chi

ldren aged 2-3 years. All the playrooms are bright, welcoming and well maintained and resources and equipment are of very high quality. Each playroom benefits from direct access onto safe and secure outdoor areas. The children spend lots of time outdoors and the gardens provide rich and challenging opportunities for the children to experience fresh air and exercise. Throughout their time in nursery our children enjoy a variety of interesting activities which encourage and support them to learn through play and also promotes their creativity and curiosity. We aim to develop their confidence and independence and help them to establish positive attitudes which will be carried forward as they move onto school and become effective and responsible citizens in their local and wider community. High priority is given to our children's Health and Wellbeing and our children benefit from a varied programme of physical activities throughout the year which include dancing, mini kickers, swimming, yoga and opportunities to explore the local woods. The extension to our building has given us additional accommodation which enables us to provide a number of quality opportunities for family engagement. Our staff work closely with a range of other professionals and voluntary agencies to develop and deliver a varied programme of 'play-along' and family support groups. We offer a number of sessions which are aimed at different groups of parents, carers and ages of children, including 'Playaway', Baby Nest, Musical Minors, 'Toddler Talk', Crafty Hands, Early Birds and 'Family Time'. These sessions provide valuable opportunities for parents and carers to experience new activities with their children, which in turn supports increased self-esteem and confidence. Our staff team includes a Head Teacher, Depute Head of Centre, Senior Early Years Officers, Family Support Worker, Nursery Teachers, Early Years Officers, Pupil Support Assistants, Clerical Assistants and Janitorial staff. The team work very well together to provide the best possible learning environment for our children and will go 'the extra mile' to ensure all families feel welcome and included. We pay particular attention to the appearance and presentation of all areas within our Centre, as we believe this supports our children and families to feel valued and respected.
