🚒 This morning, we attended an incident at Asda, Duffryn, Newport.

💨 A power failure in the area caused the store’s back-up generator to activate, which in turn triggered smoke systems on site.

🙏 There is no risk to the public, and the situation was resolved quickly by crews.

🚒 Despite our policy on Automatic Fire Alarms (AFAs) changing last year, we still respond immediately to alarms in homes, schools, heritage sites, and NHS buildings – as well as to confirmed fires.

Our new policy means fewer false alarms and more time for real emergencies.

👋 Meet On-Call Firefighter Zoe.

Based in Caerphilly, Zoe has been an on-call firefighter for the past three years. Her typical week is a busy one - committing 62 hours per week to the Service on top of her 9 to 5 - but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

She said: "The skills, discipline, and confidence firefighters develop are transferable. It’s beneficial all round. Give it a go.”
