**Public Notice: St Silin’s Churchyard Renovation
Tree Management Works: 23–27 February 2026**
Llansilin Community Council wishes to advise residents of upcoming essential maintenance within the council-owned portion of the Churchyard.
The Project
The works involve the removal of several large, non-native conifers (including California Redwood, Western Red Cedar, and Giant Sequoia) planted in the 1970s and 80s. While impressive, these species can exceed heights of 100m, making them unmanageable for a village churchyard setting.
Why is this necessary?
*Protection of Heritage: To prevent future structural damage to the Church fabric and the neighbouring Wynnstay Inn.
*Renovation & Light: To create space and light for a wider programme of vegetation clearance and graveyard restoration.
*Conservation: These works target only softwoods. All hardwoods and the ancient Yew trees are strictly excluded.
Permissions & Safety
The Council has secured all necessary consents, including:
*Powys County Council: Permission for works within a Conservation Area.
*Diocese of St Asaph: Written consent from the Archdeacon of Montgomeryshire.
The project will be managed by G Faire and Co. of Pontfadog, operating under a certified Method of Working with full public liability insurance.
Community Benefit
Timber will be left on-site in manageable lengths. Members of the community will be welcome to collect this for personal use once the contractors have marked the area as safe.
