About Glyntraian

Glyntraian is a local government community in Wrexham County Borough in North Wales.

The parish of Glyntraian, in the Ceiriog Valley, was formed when the ancient parish of Llangollen was divided into three traeanau*: Llangollen Traean, Trefor Traean, and Glyn Traean - which later became known as Glyntraian.

Historically, the area contained the ancient townships of Cilcochwyn, Crogeniddon, Crogenwladus, Erwallo, Hafodgynfor, Nantygwryd, Pennant and Talygarth.

Nowadays, the Glyntraian community comprises the villages of Dolywern and Pontfadog and the hamlets of Llechrydau and Llwynmawr and parts of Castle Mill and Bronygarth. Since 1972, the area has been governed by Glyntraian Community Council (Welsh: Cyngor Cymuned Glyntraian), which replaced Glyntraian Parish Council (Local Government Act 1972).
