As we celebrate National Volunteers week, we would like to highlight and thank the many Volunteers who make all the wonderful events that call Llangollen Town Hall home, some for only for a day or two a year, others once a month, some move in for weeks or over a month.

From Llangollen Operatic Societyy, Llangollen Pantomime, Llangollen Comedy Club, Llangollen Twenty Club to New Dot Cinema and many many more, we are so fortunate to have so many wonderful events take place in this wonderful building and in Llangollen. The joy and memories you bring to casts, crews, participants, volunteers and audiences is very much appreciated.

Our Town has so many assets, to name just a few Llangollen Museum, Llangollen Community Garden, Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Llangollen Railway, Grow Llangollen - Community Supported Agriculture, Llangollen Food Share, Llangollen Fringe Festival, Llangollen Age and Dementia Friendly Town Repair Cafe, Lock Up Heritage Centre, 1st Llangollen Brownies and Scouts and many children's and adults Sports groups and organisations and singing groups.

There are so many amazing things that happen in our Town that would not be possible without the time and dedication provided by a sea of Volunteers.

Branch Royal British Legion and Band who also make the Towns annual Remembrance service the moving and touching event it is.

We are also fortunate to have many many volunteers fundraisers in Town who work hard to raise much needed funds to keep many valued and essential organisations going.

We are sorry for anyone we have left out, the list is incredibly long, please do tag them in the comments as we would love to see them highlighted too.

Llangollen Town Council are delighted to have received two swift boxes and a caller, which will play swift calls in the hope of attracting more swifts to nest at the Town Hall. The boxes and callers have kindly been provided by Chirk Swifts and House Martins Group. Installation took place yesterday by Dan and his team, with use of a cherry picker.

We do have swifts nesting in the Town Hall, but hope more swifts will be take up residence in the new boxes. We are especially grateful to Chirk Swifts and House Martins, who surveyed the Town Hall with local residents and Town Council staff back in 2025, when we first began discussing the installation for this year.

This installation is part of Llangollen Town Councils commitment to improving and protecting Biodiversity and our responsibilities as a local Council.

Volunteers’ Week 2026 in the UK runs from Monday 1st June to Sunday 7th June, celebrating and recognising the contributions of volunteers nationwide. Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign that has been running since 1984, providing a platform to thank volunteers and highlight the impact of their work across communities.

Llangollen Town Council would like to thank Llangollen Tidy Towns Team for all they do to help with environmental safety and the overall appearance of the town, which is so important. The Town Council supports the work of the Llangollen Tidy Towns Team who work hard to make Llangollen a better place in which to live, work and enjoy. They get local people involved in a range of projects, as well as the monthly “Tidy up” of key areas around the town. The volunteers are of all ages and they learn new skills, keep active and have taken ownership and pride in the local area.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Well, it's almost fate that during Hedgehog Awareness Week our Deputy Clerk and her daughter found a hedgehog out in the daytime, and knew what to do. They spoke with Tracey from Hedgehog Help Prestatyn and took a video and photographs, weighed the hedgehog and popped it in a box with a warm water bottle, blanket, hay and water and hedgehog and meaty cat food mixed and popped it in a quiet place in their home until it could be transported for the appropriate care with Tracey. The poor little thing looked like it's spines had been caught with a strimmer and is underweight. They also checked to make sure there were not any more in the area. Hopefully it will make a full recovery now it's in expert hands.

Please check gardens before strimming and leave wild areas where possible and avoid using pesticides and garden chemicals which could harm hedgehogs and the creatures they eat.

If you see a hedgehog out in the daytime of in distress, please follow the advice below and contact Tracey at Hedgehog Help Prestatyn

Did you know to help hedgehogs move around from garden to garden a simple 13cm gap in the bottom of the fence will do, and that hedgehogs should not eat milk or bread. You can provide fresh water and meaty cat or dog food or specialist hedgehog food to supplement their natural diet.
