⚖️ Jail for conspirators of £1million tin theft from Tata Steel

Yesterday, a group of men who conspired to steal tin ingots from Tata Steel in Llanelli were sentenced for the theft of metal worth over £1,000,000.

Employees Thomas Ashford, Stewart Jones and Richard Jones, along with co-defendant Matthew Membury, hatched a plan to steal tin from the Trostre site, using a cloned security pass to access deliveries the day after they were received.

They received the following sentences:

🔹 Stewart Jones, aged 56, of Maeswerdd, Llanelli: 40 months in prison
🔹 Thomas Ashford, aged 36, of St David’s Road, Ammanford: 40 months in prison
🔹 Richard Jones, aged 39, of Ceri Road, Swansea: 20-month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years

Matthew Membury, aged 32, of Cathan Close, Port Mead, will be sentenced at a later date.

Dyfed-Powys Police is warning people not to enter the Stradey Park Hotel building in Llanelli, following a rise in reports of trespassing at the site.
A number of calls have been received by the force, reporting people accessing the building over the bank holiday weekend to create social media content.
Enquiries are being carried out into potential criminal damage and burglary offences, and officers are in contact with those involved.
Work is also being carried out with partners and the owners to resolve this matter, and community engagement is ongoing to reassure people living in the area.
If you witness trespassing or antisocial behaviour at the location, please report it to police in one of the following ways:

CHARGED | A woman has been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of shoplifting following a series of incidents reported in Llanelli.

Kara Racuoco, aged 41, of Llanelli has been charged and remanded into custody as enquiries into two shoplifts and two robberies continue.

The first robbery was reported at Asda on Murray Street, Llanelli, on Tuesday 7 April, where two bottles of wine were reported to have been taken, while a shop assistant was said to be threatened in the process.

On Tuesday 5 May, a report was received from Home Bargains on Station Road, Llanelli, where a bottle of wine had been taken from the shop, with no efforts made to pay.

A further two offences were reported on the 16th and 17th of May, the first at Asda and the second at Tesco Extra. It was reported that on Saturday 16 May, two joints of beef were stolen from Asda, with threatening behaviour reported in the process. On Sunday 17 May, a further shoplift offence was reported from Tesco Extra, Parc Trostre, where around £95 worth of meat was reported to have been stolen from the shop.

Kara Racuoco denied the charges at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court yesterday (18 May.) The 41-year-old has been remanded into custody ahead of the pre-trial plea hearing at Swansea Crown Court on Friday 19 June.

Suspicious item update | The package found in Long Row, Felinfoel, has been examined by the explosive ordnance disposal team, and we can confirm there is no risk to the public.

The cordon and road closures have now been lifted, and residents who were evacuated can return home.

We recognise the inconvenience this has caused, and thank you for your cooperation and patience while we ensured your safety.

Further enquiries will be carried out to establish the source of the item and the intention behind it being placed in a public location.

We are currently dealing with an incident in Long Row, Felinfoel, Llanelli, following a report of a suspect package being found at 12.25pm.
Officers, along with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service, were dispatched to the scene.
Long Row and Adulam Row are closed to traffic, and people living in both streets, as well as those in Y Fron that back onto Long Row, have been asked to leave their homes as a precaution while the package is examined.

JAILED | Crack dealer jailed after police drugs raid in Llanelli

Jake Ware, of Pwll in Llanelli, has been jailed for three years for his role in supplying Class A drugs.

On Wednesday, 17 December 2025, Dyfed-Powys Police carried out a search warrant at an address in Llanelli following information received that Jake Ware was supplying Class A and B drugs from the property.

During the search, officers seized approximately £4,000 worth of crack co***ne, over £2,000 in cash along with other items typically used for drug dealing including weighing scales and digital devices.

Though no people were present at the property, officers noted two suspicious vehicles passing the house on multiple occasions while searches were being carried out. Efforts supported by Dyfed-Powys Police’s Roads Policing Unit to locate the vehicles proved unsuccessful, and Jake Ware was officially named as a wanted suspect.

After following several lines of enquiry to trace Ware, a public appeal to locate him was launched on Thursday 26 March 2026. Thanks to information received from the public, the 26-year-old was arrested later that afternoon.

Ware was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and was later charged and remanded into custody.

Detectives uncovered further evidence of Ware’s drug dealing activity through the discovery of a Facebook account under the fake name “JJ Mac”. Jake Ware was identified as the owner of the account, which he used to send messages like “I literally got half oz weighed here chuck me 25 tomorrow.”

“Half oz” is a term commonly used by drug dealers which refers to a measurement of a controlled substance. In this case the drug was identified to be co***ne.

Ware appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Monday 27 April where he pleaded guilty to the following charges:

❌ Possession with intent to supply class A drugs
❌ Being concerned in the supply of crack co***ne
❌ Possessing criminal property

On Friday 1 May, Ware was sentenced to three years in prison.

💬 Detective Sergeant Richard Saunders said: “Jake Ware thought he could get away with supplying harmful drugs in the Llanelli area, but now he is in jail.

“I want to thank the public who responded to our appeal to locate Ware. With your help, we were able to arrest Ware and take another drug dealer off our streets.

“If you ever suspect drug dealing might be taking place in your area, please report it. You can report your concerns anonymously through Crimestoppers or you can simply report directly to us at Dyfed-Powys Police.

“By working together, we can make Llanelli a safer place to live.”

CHARGED | We are investigating an aggravated burglary that was reported to have taken place at a property on Bigyn Rd, Llanelli on Friday 17 April.

As part of the investigation, arrest enquiries were carried out at a number of locations in Llanelli on Saturday 25 April. This operation resulted in the arrest one man, aged 37, and two women, aged 21 and 26, on suspicion of aggravated burglary. All three were interviewed and released on conditional bail.

On Sunday 26 April, a further two arrests were carried in connection with the aggravated burglary offence. Dean Guard, aged 48, and Richard Lewis, aged 41, both of Granby Close, Llanelli, were charged with aggravated burglary and have been remanded into custody.

Appearing at Llanelli Magistrates Court on Tuesday 28 April, the pair entered not-guilty pleas and have been further remanded until their trial at Swansea Crown Court on Friday 29 May 2026.

💬 Temporary Detective Superintendent Rhys Jones said: “I want to once again thank residents in Llanelli for their assistance while we carried out arrest enquiries across Llanelli last weekend.

“I appreciate the police presence on Saturday 26 April was particularly heavy, and I - along with my colleagues - am grateful for the understanding and co-operation shown.

“It was great to see the public supporting our officers by providing information that ultimately led to the suspects being located and arrested. This was a fantastic example of how the police and public can work together.

“Our efforts are now focussed on progressing this case through the criminal justice system.”
