Latest 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 from the reserve! 👀

The reserve has burst into colour recently, as our 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 bloom. Look closely and you may spot a 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗹𝘆 (see photo) as it dances across the meadow.

We look forward to seeing the 𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗱𝘀 pop up each year. The first few 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗱𝘀 (see photo) have started to flower along the Ganol Trail and near the Vardre Viewpoint over the past few days. We should see the first of our beautiful 𝗕𝗲𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗱𝘀 appear in the next few days too.

Following on from last year's excitement, when we had our first 𝗟𝗮𝗽𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 nest on the reserve in over 10 years, we were delighted to discover two nests this year! 🥳

Last year's pair have 3 very active little chicks (see photo) already on the shallow lagoon, which are delighting visitors with their fluffy antics. Meanwhile, the second pair still appear to be brooding eggs.

Our 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁-𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗲𝘀, and a few 𝗢𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 and 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝘁 pairs are currently tending nests too, and there are broods of 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 and 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 on the deep lagoon. The first 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝘁, 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝘁, 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝘁, 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱 and 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗻 fledglings have all been spotted out of the nest too.

Other highlights this week include 𝗢𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘆, 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁, 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁, 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗹, 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸-𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝗱𝘄𝗶𝘁, 𝗪𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗻, 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘁 and 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲.
