A great story from here at Llandrindod Wells Fire Station 🚒

We’re incredibly proud of Paul & Connor, Dom & Fin, and Richard & Brad – three fathers serving alongside their sons as On-Call Firefighters and together clocking up more than 73 years of service.

It’s a brilliant example of the family spirit we have here at Station 13 and the commitment our crews continue to give to the local community.

And how many stations can say they’ve had three sets of fathers and sons all responding together on the same fire engine! 👨‍🚒🚒

FREE ELECTRIC BLANKET TESTING 🔥

As the colder months approach, many of us will be getting our electric blankets back out — but do you know if yours is still safe to use?

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be offering FREE electric blanket testing at a number of our local fire stations this October.

Simply bring your electric blanket along and we’ll have it tested for you. Any blanket that fails the safety test will have the flex removed to make sure it can’t continue to be used.

📍 Take a look at the posters below for your nearest testing location, date and time.

A quick safety check could help keep you and your family safe this winter.

25 years ago today.

13:46hrs September 11, 2001.

A day that changed the world forever and one that will never be forgotten.

Today we remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives, their families and loved ones, and all those whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day.

We also remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other emergency responders who went towards danger when everyone else was trying to escape including the 343 FDNY firefighters who never returned home.

25 years on, we remember them all.

999 Day 🚒 🚓 🚑

Today we join emergency services across the UK in marking 999 Day.

It’s a chance to recognise everyone who works and volunteers across our emergency services and to thank them for everything they do, often in difficult and challenging circumstances.

Here at Llandrindod Wells Fire Station, we’re proud to be part of the 999 family and even prouder to serve our local community.

We also take a moment today to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. ❤️

A big thank you to all our colleagues across the emergency services.

Diwrnod 999 🚒 🚓 🚑

Heddiw rydym yn ymuno â’r gwasanaethau brys ledled y DU i nodi Diwrnod 999.

Mae’n gyfle i gydnabod pawb sy’n gweithio ac yn gwirfoddoli ar draws ein gwasanaethau brys, ac i ddiolch iddynt am bopeth maen nhw’n ei wneud, yn aml mewn amgylchiadau anodd a heriol.

Yma yng Ngorsaf Dân Llandrindod, rydym yn falch o fod yn rhan o deulu’r 999 ac yn falch iawn o wasanaethu ein cymuned leol.

Heddiw, rydym hefyd yn cymryd eiliad i gofio’r rhai sydd wedi colli eu bywydau wrth gyflawni eu dyletswyddau. ❤️

Diolch yn fawr i’n holl gydweithwyr ar draws y gwasanaethau brys.

🔥 ONGOING WILDFIRE INCIDENT – GLASCWM 🔥

Fire crews are currently in attendance at a significant wildfire incident in the Glascwm area, where firefighters are working to contain and bring the fire under control.

The incident currently has an estimated fire front of approximately 600 metres, with a significant amount of smoke being generated.

Smoke is visible from a number of miles away and, due to the current wind conditions, the smell of smoke has been reported as far away as Builth Wells.

We would like to reassure residents that fire crews are in attendance and actively dealing with the incident.

If you are in or travelling through the Glascwm area, please:

• Avoid the immediate area where possible to allow emergency vehicles and crews to operate safely.
• Keep windows and doors closed if you are affected by smoke.
• Take extra care on surrounding roads where smoke may reduce visibility.
• Do not attempt to approach the incident to take photographs or videos.
• Continue to call 999 if you see a separate fire or believe life or property is at immediate risk.

Wednesday night, our station received a call that none of us ever expected to receive.

We were mobilised to a serious domestic fire, but this wasn’t just another incident. The house belonged to our Group Manager Phil Morris, and his family.

Tragically, the fire has left the family having lost virtually everything. Their home and possessions have been devastated, and they have been left with little more than the clothes they had with them.

As firefighters, we’re used to being the ones who turn up when somebody is having one of the worst days of their life. We go in, do everything we can to help and try to make a terrible situation that little bit better.

But when that call is for one of your own, it really hits home.

GM Morris has devoted so much of his life and career to the Fire and Rescue Service, helping others when they need it most. He has been an inspiration to so many of us and an incredible fire officer, colleague and friend.

Now it’s our opportunity to be there for him and his family.

The community have set up this JustGiving page to try and take away even a small amount of the pressure they are facing. The money raised will help with the immediate essentials and give the family some support as they begin the incredibly difficult process of getting back on their feet and rebuilding their lives.

If you can spare anything at all, no matter how small, it would mean an enormous amount. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this post and the JustGiving link would be hugely appreciated.

When someone has spent their life helping others, hopefully we can now come together and return some

Iʼm raising money to Help Donna and Phillip after losing their house to a devastating house fire . Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

It has been an exceptionally busy few weeks for the crew at Station 13 Llandrindod Wells, with a total of 86 incidents between 17 July and 17 August.

This officially makes it a record month for Llandrindod Wells Fire Station for the highest number of calls attended within a single month.

For our monthly statistics, we record calls from the 17th of each month through to the 17th of the following month, and this period has seen our crews respond to a huge variety of incidents across the area.

Wildfire incidents have obviously been extremely high, contributing significantly to what has been an incredibly demanding period for our crews.

To put the scale of this month into perspective -

86 incidents attended
59 calls since 1st August alone
1,494 crew hours spent attending incidents

Those 1,494 hours represent the combined time our firefighters have spent responding to and dealing with incidents and that doesn’t include the many additional hours spent training, maintaining equipment and ensuring our appliance and crew remain ready to respond.

Behind every one of those calls are our on call firefighters dropping what they are doing, leaving their workplaces, homes and families, and responding when the pager sounds often multiple times in the same day and for long periods.

We therefore want to say a particularly huge thank you to our employers and families for their continued support, patience and understanding throughout the last few weeks.

Our employers releasing crew members from their workplaces, and our families accepting the disruption that comes with such an exceptionally busy period, are a vital part of enabling us to maintain a response for our community. We simply couldn’t do what we do without their support.

We’ll follow (when we have time to count them up!) this post with a breakdown of the different incident types attended during this record breaking month, including the significant number of wildfire incidents.

And, just to prove that the calls don’t stop when the numbers reset, we’ve already attended another two incidents since midnight.

A record breaking month comes to an end, but our work doesn’t. The pager can sound at any time, and we’ll continue to be there when we’re needed.
