Tonight we opened the doors to Absence ✨

A new photography exhibition exploring what it means to document what is no longer there — now showing in our Stable Gallery until 11 July.
Featuring work from seven visual sociologists, plus open call finalists Daniel Frost, Alishah Iqbal, Paradise Made, Dan Murphy and Claire Weetman — all capturing absence as it lives in the Liverpool City Region.

Free entry, no booking needed. Open Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 4:30pm.

Tours, talks and a panel discussion at Open Eye Gallery coming up throughout June. Link in bio to book your free spot.

🖼️New Exhibition opening tomorrow: Absence

Absence, curated by sociologists Laura Harris and Maike Pötschulat, is a new group exhibition that brings together the photography of seven visual sociologists, alongside finalists from an open call for photography of absences in the Liverpool City Region.

The show explores absence as both a social reality and a visual language. Across more than 100 photographs, the show investigates absence’s many forms, asking: What does it mean to document what is no longer there, or those who are no longer present? How can we see what society leaves behind, or what never came to be? How can we photograph what resists to be shown?

Descend into the shadowy depths of the prison cells and hear chilling stories of infamous criminals and the harsh conditions they endured, where whispers of the past seem to echo through the stone walls, then, feel the weight of history as you stand in the Crown Courtroom where the trials of those below were conducted.

Will you step into the shoes of the judge, the accused, or the condemned?

Happy Anniversary to Liverpool FC! 🎉❤️

Did you know on 3 June 1892, local businessman John Houlding founded Liverpool FC also served as Liverpool’s 6th Lord Mayor (1897-98). Over the years, Liverpool’s City Halls have been deeply tied to the club’s history, hosting celebrations, tributes, and moments of honour.

🏆 Freedom of Liverpool has been awarded to legends like Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish, Jürgen Klopp & Steven Gerrard.
🔴 Bill Shankly famously stood on St George’s Hall steps in 1971, addressing thousands of Liverpool fans.
💛 The 97 Hillsborough victims were awarded the Freedom of Liverpool, with St George’s Hall’s Plateau hosting a historic commemorative service in 2016.
⚽️ In 2005, Liverpool’s Champions League parade centred around St George’s Hall, where the famous “Champions League Roof” photo was captured.
