Today, 6 June 2026, marks the 82nd anniversary of the Normandy Landings (D-Day), and the Ministry of Defence is providing funding to support WWII veterans travelling to remembrance ceremonies in Europe. This will enable them to return to places of immense historical significance and personal memory.
While we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who took part in the largest seaborne invasion in history, we can also be proud of the crucial role our own local area played.
From RAF Tangmere and training landings at Climping Beach, to the RAF Air Sea Rescue base at Littlehampton Golf Club, the assembly of Mulberry Harbour units at Pagham, to the wounded servicemen flown back for treatment at Bognor War Memorial Hospital, our coastline helped make D-Day possible.
Lest we forget. đș
