SHOUTS! Yesterday afternoon was very busy for our volunteer crew - we had two shouts in the space of an hour!

We were tasked to check on the welfare of a person aboard a craft near Rustington, then straight after were asked to check on the welfare of a person aboard a vessel 1.5 miles off the coast of Littlehampton. Thankfully, everyone was safe and well.

We launched 77 times in 2025, and 2026 is proving to be just as busy!

SHOUT! Yesterday, at 6.30pm, our volunteer crew were tasked to check on the welfare of a person aboard a yacht that had run aground at the entrance to Littlehampton Harbour.

Our crew, in our Spirit of Fidelity lifeboat, established that the person was safe and well, and that he was happy to wait until the tide was high enough for him to enter the harbour safely.

SHOUT! Our volunteer crew were tasked at 6.15pm on Sunday (31 May) to assist a yacht with one person aboard that had run aground at the entrance to Littlehampton Harbour.

Our Spirit of Fidelity lifeboat was launched and our crew waited with the yacht until it had refloated and could make its way to deeper water.

At 9.10pm, our crew returned to our lifeboat station and launched our Renee Sherman lifeboat. They headed back to the yacht and escorted it into Littlehampton Harbour.

It takes more than one person to launch a lifeboat.

This Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June) we’re giving a very big shout out to our boat, shore, shop, water safety, visits and fundraising crews, as well as our launch authorities, boathouse managers and doctor.

Every single volunteer makes our lifesaving work possible and we can’t thank them enough for their dedication and commitment to saving lives at sea. Thank you!🙏

❗️Please don’t swim near the pier or river at Littlehampton❗️

If you’re visiting Littlehampton East Beach, please avoid swimming or bathing near the pier or the river. This area is clearly marked with red flags, two large banners and five warning signs.

The River Arun is one of the fastest flowing rivers in the UK. The currents where the river meets the sea are extremely dangerous.

If you'd like to swim:

✅ Swim between the red and yellow flags when our lifeguards are on duty
✅Only enter the water from the second section of beach opposite the seafront shops and onwards.

Please help keep everyone safe by sharing this lifesaving message with friends and family.

SHOUT! If you were near the river Arun yesterday early evening you may have seen our Atlantic 85 heading out on a shout. A 7 metre pleasure craft with 5 people on board was unable to make way and needed assistance as it was drifting approximately half a mile off Middleton-on-Sea. Our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to help them back to the safety of Littlehampton marina.

With a glorious weekend of weather heading our way please do remember that the sea is still very cold - a bracing 14 Celsius. If you are heading to the east beach in Littlehampton please take note of the signs showing where it is not safe to swim. Our RNLI Lifeguards will be happy to advise - look for the red and yellow beach flags swimming area near the lifeguard tower. Our lifeguards are on duty everyday from Saturday 23 May until 6 September 10am-6pm. 😎😎😎
