Our Mayor, Cllr Brian Higginson has officially launched his Mayoral Charity for the year ahead, announcing a partnership with Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, the region’s dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.

During a visit to the charity’s operational base, the Mayor met with members of the HEMS team, toured the facilities and saw the distinctive red helicopter up close.

Mayor Higginson heard directly from clinicians and staff about the critical care they deliver at the scene of emergencies across Northern Ireland, often in the most challenging and time sensitive situations.

The Mayor said he is proud to support a service that any one of us may need at any time, praising the dedication, skill and compassion of the doctors, paramedics and volunteers who respond to trauma incidents on average twice a day.

The Mayor’s fundraising efforts throughout the year will directly support these vital missions and help ensure the team can continue reaching patients when every second counts.

Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh appeals for calm and responsible leadership

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Brian Higginson, has appealed for calm and responsible leadership in light of the concern being felt across communities today.

Mayor Higginson said: “Like many people across Northern Ireland, I was deeply shocked and disturbed by the horrific attack which took place in North Belfast. The footage circulating has caused understandable alarm and concern, and my thoughts are with the victim and their family.

I want to appeal for calm, for responsible leadership, and for everyone to act in a way that helps protect community safety and good relations across Lisburn and Castlereagh. People have a right to expect that community safety remains a priority and that legitimate concerns are listened to and addressed. However, those concerns must be expressed through democratic and lawful means.”

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council continues to encourage residents to act responsibly, to prioritise safety, and to support efforts to maintain calm across the area.
