💚🌊Happy World Ocean Day from the Lincoln Green Party 🌊💚

This year’s theme, Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet – will guide global action over the coming years. This theme brings together the momentum of recent multi-year action themes and aligns powerfully with recent ratification of the High Seas Treaty to protect biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction. Many world leaders have committed to 30x30 (protecting at least 30% of lands, waters and oceans by 2030) now it is time for them to follow through with their promises.

Looking locally in North Lincolnshire, the greater Lincolnshire seafood cluster employs nearly 6,000 people directly in over 50 approved seafood processing factories and trading businesses. Looking beyond jobs created, the total sales of products processed or traded in Grimsby alone is around £2bn!

Lincoln Green Party are dismayed by the recent Code of Practice guidance published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

We understand that there can be no environmental justice 🌿 without social ✊ and economic 💰 justice too. All these issues and crises are interlinked and need to be faced together to stand up for the wellbeing of people and planet 🌍.

We must all call the Code of Practice for what it is, segregation. We will always ally with and fight for the LGBTQIA+ community 🏳️‍🌈.

Here is our newly elected Green Councillor weighing in on the plan to suspend Jury Trials! 💚

Earlier this week, on Monday 18th May was Jury Support Day - put together by the Jury Alliance to protest the government plan to remove trial by jury for thousands of criminal cases. 👨‍⚖️

The right to a jury trial is a cornerstone of a democratic society and has been part of our system for centuries. It protects us from unfair prosecution, bias and interference. It prevents power centralisation for the privileged few and for an open legal system to ensure fairness.

There is a claim the move will save money, yet underfunding is the real cause of delays in the court system - removing our rights does nothing to support this.

💚 CITY OF LINCOLN ELECTIONS 2026 💚

Lincoln Green Party have made their breakthrough onto the City of Lincoln Council! 🗳️

After a hard-fought campaign, the Green Party in Lincoln has made its first gains in Lincoln, as well as a series of excellent results, thanks to all of our hard-working campaigners, volunteers and our fantastic slate of candidates.

Weeks of racking up hundreds of thousands of steps, delivering tens of thousands of leaflets and knocking on thousands of doors to listen to people all over Lincoln - we're extremely proud of all of our members, the veterans and the newcomers, who have organised together to pull off our best campaign yet. Had we more time (thanks to the elections being off and then on again!) we absolutely could have won in other places.

Our highlight of the evening was moving from 4th to win in Park Ward for Sally Horscroft, who has been organising, campaigning and standing for the Lincoln Greens for over 10 years. She ran a brilliant campaign, With a gain of 21.6 percentage points to 30.3% of the vote, It is a well deserved win and she is going to be putting in the graft for her local area, as she always has.

Other notable highlights were Josh for Carholme Ward who pulled off a tireless campaign with a fantastic team, gaining 26.7 percentage points with 31.6% of the vote moving the Greens from fifth to second place just over 100 votes behind Labour (this time!) but showing Reform the door. Having a strong Green voice in Carholme helped to increase turnout to a whopping 43.36% which is nearly unheard of for local elections!

Abbey Ward saw Elicia increase the Green vote by 13.3 percentage points with 18.4% of the vote and also move the Greens from fifth to second place!

In Boultham, Charles worked in a really tight race yet gaining 17.2 percentage points bringing him up to a close third with 25.2% of the vote and moving the Greens from fifth to third place.

Castle Ward saw grow the Green vote by 12.9 percentage points with 22.6% of the vote, putting the Greens into third place!

In every ward in the city, the Greens gained votes with an average gain of 13 percentage points. 💚

Our members have worked hard to put hope on the ballot, for people & planet - we've only just begun!
