Lincoln & District Model Engineering Society Ltd LDMES operates a Miniature Railway in North Scarle, Lincolnshire running every other Sunday throughout the Summer 8.30am - 11.30am alongside a car boot sale.

Last one on13th September. Santa Special on Sunday 6th December 12pm - 3pm. The Lincoln and District Model Engineering Society Ltd meet monthly in Lincoln. We also have regular running days for our miniature railway in North Scarle (every other Sunday). Our working party meets weekly at the Railway site (currently Thursday). The final event of the year for the portable track was the Lindum Group Family Fun Day. Although a long day for the track team, at least the threatened rain held off and as usual we were fed and watered by our hosts.
Next day was the final car boot sale of the year and we were pleased to discover that for the second time in a row the majority of those riding the railway had come to North Scarle with that purpose rather than to visit the car boot.

Sadly one of our long term former members has recently passed away. John Lee was a larger than life character who beside being an accomplished engineer was also heavily involved in music, both performing and making musical instruments. Despite his disabilities, John had a great sense of humour and was known for amusing the children at public events and having forthright opinions which he shared with his fellow model engineers. Unfortunately over the last couple of years, being unwell, John had to give up his association with LDMES but those who knew him remember him as a man with a real personality. Everyone will miss him.

Yet another outing for the portable track team, this time to Saxilby Family Fun Day. And we certainly had a fun, busy day giving rides from 12pm to 5pm with hardly a break. Mel brought her 5" Class 58 which we ran alongside the Hymek so Jim and Simon took turns on the former as well as the latter. A nice flat piece of ground for us to lay the track without too much levelling to do.

Last weekend we took the portable track to Heckington Show as we do every year. The weather was kind and our miniature railway proved as popular as ever with the public - especially the little ones (but funny how the Dads always insist on them having a ride as well). But the recent dry spell took its toll and the surface on which we had to lay the track was the worst in living memory. Constant attention had to be given to packing and levelling as the "ploughed field" proved to be far from ideal.

A busy weekend with running at the North Scarle Summer Fayre (seems to have been a great success) on Saturday followed by the regular car boot sale on Sunday. No wonder I was too tired to go to the pub on Sunday evening!
And next weekend we have two full days at the Heckington Show. Stand by for a repeat performance!

Not every railway model engineer chooses to build a locomotive. With Colin Parkers 7.25" wagons in the centre, we have each side a display of Terry Peacock's superb 5" trucks which he has built over the years and of which he is rightly proud.
