Operation Eagle Hawk - the Red Arrows’ tour to the United States marking the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence - begins today, with the team departing our home base.

But how do we get the Hawk jets, that can’t refuel in the air and have limited range, across the Atlantic?

It takes planning and teamwork, with support from specialists across the Royal Air Force.

Several days of poor conditions at our home of RAF Waddington meant far fewer opportunities to carry out formation flying than we would have liked.

But on the rare occasions when there were clear skies, we made gradual progress preparing for the summer season.
