Make Lincoln's waters safer for children and families

The new anti-austerity and anti-war councillors elected on May 7th can make a difference, as a republished case study of the record of two socialist councillors under the last New Labour government shows. The headline-grabbing stories from the elections are the gains for Reform and the Greens, the P...

Incredible atmosphere in Lincoln yesterday as tens of thousands of people took to the streets to celebrate Lincoln City's promotion to the second tier of English football for the first time since the early 1960s.

We stand for a society in which football is run by and in the interests of working-class people: the fans, the staff and the players.

We highly recommend this book about a socialist vision for football:

Yesterday's election results were a devastating defeat for Starmer's Labour both in Lincoln and nationally as their share of the vote plummeted and they lost a huge number of seats.

Whilst Labour clung on to power in Lincoln, they have a wafer thin majority in the council chamber which could face challenges at any time.

Keir Starmer's government has largely continued the austerity policies of the Tories, despite a massive housing crisis and public services in desperate need of funding.

And in Lincoln, Labour has loyally wielded the axe instead of standing up to the Government for extra funding, as well as providing political cover for Starmer by staying silent amidst the brutal slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza, and refusing to publicly support the heroic PCS DWP strike to save jobs.

Anger against Labour was channelled in different directions. Reform UK won several seats in Lincoln for the first time. The Lib Dems gained a seat too. And the Greens won their first councillor.

Amidst this backdrop, we were proud to run an independent trade union and socialist campaign in Carholme over the last few weeks.

Our vote was modest with 48 votes (2%). The Greens with their national profile were seen on this occasion as the more effective way to protest against Labour. It remains to be seen whether Green councillors will vote for more cuts and privatisation on the council and on other councils across the country, or offer a fighting anti-austerity alternative in action as well as in words.

Despite our modest vote share, there was still support for our demands for a mass council house building programme, investment in community facilities, and a fight to restore funding after years of austerity, even if that didn't translate into votes this time round.

Over the coming months, we hope to consolidate our work during the election campaign by building a working-class socialist group locally which campaigns all year round, fights against austerity policies and for the funding that our communities need, and holds politicians from all parties to account. We hope you will join us in this task.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Please help us bring back the Lincoln Pride parade! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Last year, we unfortunately had to cancel the Lincoln Pride parade due to the rising costs involved in making it happen safely. It was a heartbreaking decision, because we know how much the parade means to our community. For so many people, it is one of the most visible and powerful parts of Pride, bringing LGBTQ+ people, allies, families, local businesses and community groups together on the streets of Lincoln.

This fundraiser is specifically to help bring the Lincoln Pride parade back. Money raised through this fundraiser will not go towards the main event or general Pride running costs. Every donation will be used only for the parade, helping cover the essential costs needed to safely move through the city, including road closures, traffic management, safety measures, security, stewarding and parade logistics.

Prides across the country are struggling to raise the funds needed to continue, with costs increasing year after year. Road closures, public safety requirements, anti-terrorism measures, crowd management and emergency planning are all vital, but they are also incredibly expensive. These are not optional extras - they are the things that allow a parade to happen safely and responsibly.

The parade is more than just a procession. It is a statement of visibility, solidarity and celebration. It gives people the chance to march proudly through their city, to be seen, to be heard and to know they are not alone. Bringing the parade back would mean so much to so many people across Lincoln and beyond.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us take another step towards making this possible. If you want to see the Lincoln Pride parade return to the streets of Lincoln, please donate and share this fundraiser with friends, family, local businesses and anyone who believes Pride should be visible, celebrated and supported.

Thank you for supporting Lincoln Pride and helping us work towards bringing the parade back to our city! ❀️

Today is election day.

Our campaign is proud to stand as part of the TUSC - Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition and Your Party.

Help us build a mass working-class socialist alternative to the establishment parties.

Vote Nick Parker for Carholme ward, independent trade union and socialist candidate.

06/05/2026

The elections on May 7th will be an opportunity for millions to show their anger at the establishment party politicians and the rigged system of capitalism – with its menu choices of inequality, austerity, racism, environmental vandalism and war – that they preside over. But in a modest number o...

During our campaign, people have asked us: is tomorrow's election about local or national issues? Here's what we say:

● tomorrow's election is to decide who represents the ward in which you live on the City of Lincoln Council.

● this means electing people who will make decisions about the local public services on which we all rely.

● Lincoln has been on the receiving end of over a decade of austerity. This is where a national issue (cutting funding for councils) is intrinsically linked to a local issue (councils cutting services).

● national issues can be relevant to who we vote for. How parties behave nationally affects who we choose to cast our vote for.

● local candidates' views about national issues can also inform their political principles. For example, if a candidate isn't willing to speak out about the actions of Westminster, for example, Starmer's backing for genocide in Palestine, why should we trust them to speak out against injustice locally either?

People are right to be angry about Labour's record in Lincoln, and right to be angry about Labour's record in Westminster.

We need councillors willing to stand up to the Westminster establishment and fight to reverse these cuts. This is especially so if Labour loses their majority on the council and it goes to no overall control. And we need councillors for the years ahead willing to fight to defend local jobs, services and democracy against threats from local government reorganisation.

On Thursday, vote Nick Parker, independent trade union and socialist candidate in Carholme ward.
