Wall Roman Site

Wall Roman Site Letocetum is the remains of a Roman settlement.

It was an important military staging post and posting station near the junction of Watling Street, the Roman military road to North Wales, and Icknield Street.

Behind every artefact on display lies a great deal of care and conservation work. On 10th April 2026, we were delighted to welcome conservators Wendy Richardson and Connie Tang from English Heritage for one of their regular visits to the museum. Working alongside Friends of Letocetum conservation volunteer, Al Howard, the visit focused on ensuring that our Roman collections continue to be preserved to the highest standards.

Read more about it on our blog, which includes a couple of interesting videos shot on the day.

What do you do when you have a site that is suffering damage from years of unchecked moss growth? The answer is simple: you train a bunch of willing volunteers to tackle the problem themselves. The article on the following link was published in the English Heritage Communities Newsletter, and was written by Ian Davies, one of our volunteers. It's now on our website for everyone to have a look at.
