The Lichfield Guildhall Old Prison Cells reopen on Saturday 4th April 2026!

10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Lichfield Guildhall Old Prison Cells will reopen for the season this Saturday.

Explore the city’s historic prison, on this site since 1548. See original cells, discover the inmates’ stories, and learn about law and order in Lichfield through the years.

Our amazing volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions.

The cells are free to visit—donations are welcome!

Looking for something fun to do with the kids?

The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum & Bookshop are holding children's craft activities on Thursdays throughout August.

These sessions cost £2 per child, with free entry for accompanying adults.

We've got some great Summer craft activities taking place throughout August. These sessions run on Thursdays from 11am until 1pm, and cost £2 per child (accompanying adults go free!).

See something you think your little ones would fancy having a go at? Make sure you contact the Museum to book your place. We do welcome drop-ins, however our craft sessions are extremely popular, so please book in order to secure your place.
