A few photos from today and Sunday. Our Led Zeppelin scaffolding is up! (1971 "Stairway to Heaven" was released...ouch!), Bob brought in his ever-expanding collection of superb hand-made educational models for our kids' STEM activities, Kai's been modelling too and designing duck-hunt activities for the little ones, Martin's in his happy place with his head inside a control cabinet and no prizes for guessing who's enjoying the view.

STEM opportunities for young people showcasing at the NEC this week!

📢 STEM Opportunities This Week at the NEC Birmingham

As part of our Soroptimist International of Midland Chase Region commitment to supporting women and girls through education, empowerment, and opportunity, we are delighted to highlight the dedicated STEM Programme taking place this week at Smart Manufacturing Week.

The programme aims to inspire young people to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing through a range of engaging activities, demonstrations, and industry insights.

Engineering and manufacturing offer exciting and rewarding career opportunities, yet women remain underrepresented in many areas. Events like this help raise awareness, challenge perceptions, and showcase the many pathways available to future generations.

It is particularly encouraging to see opportunities like this taking place here in the Midlands, helping to promote STEM careers and inspire the innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders of tomorrow.

Think Shakespeare...with a little less ruff and a bit more edge. 🗡👑

We're really excited to share this gritty, contemporary take on Shakespeare's classic play. Please note that this production involves the depiction of drug use and graphic scenes.

Recommended for ages 14+.

Interesting volunteer day at today...Planning wildflower areas, assisting with the survey of the wooden elements of the building fabric, successfully pressure washing (!) the rust off the top of the pump shaft, and saying goodbye to ace-volunteer Matt who's moving "Oop north". By the way, we made well over £700 at our Open Day on 17th May with our plant stall doing especially well for us. So thanks to all who came to see us and buy. Oh and we ate cake...🍰

RED FOR DANGER! IN THE BLACK COUNTRY
Presenter: Quintin Watt
Mon., 8 June, 7:30 pm
Bowling Green Pub

Join Quintin Watt as we examine several accidents from the ‘heroic age’ of railway construction in the Black Country - its ‘Green Borderland’ - from the first-known fatal incident in 1830, to the worst rail crash to ever take place in the region in 1858. Why did these accidents occur and what casualties and destruction resulted?

Finally, we'll look at consequences, including victims’ memorials, legal claims and deodands, and the scapegoating of railway employees, deemed responsible for these dreadful disasters.

Admission is free, and donations are always welcomed!
