East Sussex Fostering

East Sussex Fostering We are the fostering service for East Sussex County Council and we find foster homes for all our local children and young people who need them.

As the local authority we are responsible for finding foster homes for all the children and young people from East Sussex who need them. By fostering for us you will have the advantage of fostering through a local authority that will always have children waiting to be placed, which means we can offer first choice of placements to our in-house carers. We will only use carers from a private agency if we do not have enough foster carers of our own.

Enjoy your plans and memory-making wherever you are in beautiful East Sussex this Bank Holiday weekend.
This clip is from the 'Everything' short film. It shows how lasting relationships are formed with young people often staying in touch and visiting or join family celebrations with foster carers who were there for them when they needed it most.

You've thought about it on and off for years, but not yet ready to apply to become a foster carer?
It's quite normal to have concerns about taking the next step ...so why not add in an additional step for now, and just come along to one of our friendly online information sessions to make sure you've got accurate and up-to-date information?
We chat about what we offer you (training, support, payments, buddies, choices and flexibility) and you can ask us about the benefits of fostering with East Sussex Fostering (your local authority) and anything else you're thinking about.
No commitment at this stage. Just a bit more research to help you make your decision when you're ready.
🔗 link to our next events is in the comments ⬇️ (also head to our web page for more details and other dates)
📲 You can join from your sofa on your smartphone or other device
📲 Or call us for an informal initial chat 01323 464129
😊 We work closely with our neighbouring councils in Brighton & Hove Fostering and Fostering in West Sussex. We are all non-profit organisations - ensuring that all the funds we have available are focussed entirely on supporting foster carers and the children we care for.
🌈 If you are LGBTQ+ and interested in learning more about fostering and/or adoption as pathways to family, we run specific online information events in collaboration with Adoption South East too.
📢If fostering isn't for you now or at all, please share these details ...they might be of interest to someone you're connected to, thank you 🙌

Many would probably reply "yes" to this, and the majority would have been living at home, with their family when navigating all things teenage at the same time as GCSE's looming on the horizon.

But imagine trying to revise in a more chaotic household, with fewer boundaries about bedtime and screentime, less sleep, less regular meals available and less support and understanding. Possibly more responsibility to look after younger siblings and get them to school too.

Teenagers need encouragement and someone to guide them. Could you be there to talk about friendships and other relationships, to help with revision over a slice of toast at breakfast time? To help with a college application form and confidence to go to clubs or taster days?
🎓 Some really bright young people could achieve more with your help, in your home.

You can foster teens and continue to work alongside a fostering role if you want to.
Find out more when you get in touch with us for an informal initial chat - link in the comment below ⬇️ or call 01323 464129 and consider fostering with your non-profit local authority - thank you!

🤝 As crucial members of our professional team, our parent and child foster carers give families a chance to stay together.

Some new parents have not benefitted from positive role models themselves. When they start their own family, they may not have the confidence, knowledge or support network to keep their new baby and themselves safe at the same time.

Parent and child fostering is one of the many different types of fostering (yes, there's more than one kind of fostering!) Although there are not any specific qualifications required, some experience of fostering, nursing, child care roles and other related experience is of benefit, but we provide lots of ongoing training and support for all types of fostering.

You might be someone who would be able to make a difference to (often) young mums and their new babies. Keen to find out more?

Many jobs can work alongside your fostering role - in fact they might compliment each other with similar skills, experience and understanding 🌟
⚖️It also depends on how flexible your current working week is, whether or not you'd like to foster full time or part-time with short breaks care, and whether or not you're a single carer or have a partner who can share the support and care a child needs.
💡If you foster teenagers as part of our 16+ team, then there is less supervision required. Many young people are ready to develop their independence, so this fits alongside working really well usually.
📅Foster carers are self-employed but are subject to different income tax rates. Many foster carers do not need to pay any tax on their fostering income, and fostering income may not affect any benefits you currently receive either. Information on our website payments page ⬇️
