Wet commute or school run? 🌧️

With a number of wet weather warnings in place, please take care out on the roads.

Our advice for wet weather driving:

Slow down, wet roads reduce traction.

Keep a bigger gap between you and the car ahead.

Avoid harsh braking or sharp steering.

Use headlights so others can see you.

If you start to aquaplane: ease off the accelerator and steer gently.

If you come across a flooded road, fallen tree, or other obstacle when driving? Contact your local authority, in an emergency or serious road traffic collision contact police on 999.

Neigh-bourhood Policing 🐴

Getting out and about in our communities is a vital part of a PCSO's role, helping to keep residents informed, provide advice and support, and ensure concerns are heard and addressed.

Already this week, your local PCSOs have carried out a number of patrols across the district, spending time in your communities, including here in Streat, where local officers stopped to meet and chat with local riders.

The 'mane' aim of our patrols is to provide reassurance, maintain a visible presence, engage with residents and businesses, and help keep our communities safe.

If you see something we need to know about, don't wait until the horse has bolted; report it online or via 101 - in an emergency, always call 999.

A manipulative abuser who choked a woman has been jailed.

Jamie Hall admitted coercive control on the woman who was known to him and left her in fear.

“I don’t want what happened to me to happen to any other woman,” she said.

Hall was sentenced to three years and two months in prison and was made the subject of a ten-year restraining order.

Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Beth Charles said: “We take reports of domestic abuse and violence extremely seriously, and
tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a top priority for Sussex Police.

“After the victim came forward to report her experience, we were determined to get justice, and Hall is now serving a custodial sentence.”

Out and about this week 🧺🚓

Earlier this week, your Landport Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) attended the Landport Community Picnic at Landport Community Gardens.

Organised by residents and the Landport Residents' Association, the event was a great opportunity for PCSOs to attend and meet residents, put faces to names, discuss local concerns, and provide updates on reported incidents and crime prevention activity in the area.

It was also a great chance to engage with youngsters outside of term-time, with many enjoying the opportunity to try on police uniform, sit in a police vehicle, and experience what it is like to be a 'police officer for the day'.

Officers were also on hand to answer questions and discuss careers in policing.

Thank you again to everyone who helped organise day, and for having us along to spend it with you!

ASB driving in Newhaven

Following reports from local residents around anti-social driving and nuisance bikes, officers from your Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out additional proactive patrols in the last few weeks to address community concerns.

Already this week, officers have issued a number of Section 59 warnings to riders using motorcycles in an anti-social manner whilst out on patrol.

A Section 59 warning can be issued when a vehicle is used in a way that causes alarm, distress or annoyance to the public; if the driver is stopped again for ASB related matters within 12 months, their vehicle will be seized.

Further action was also taken during late-night patrols last night (26 August), when officers on patrol were alerted to a motorcycle being ridden dangerously, not only was the motorcycle carrying two people, but it also had no lights, no registration plates displayed, and neither rider was wearing a helmet.

Officers caught up with the motorcycle, and both riders made off on foot, following a foot chase, both individuals were located, and the motorcycle was seized.

We hope that these results demonstrate our continued commitment to tackling nuisance bikes and anti-social behaviour across the district, targeted patrols will continue in areas where concerns have been reported, and action will be taken where offences are identified.

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting concerns via 101 or online, or by calling 999 in an emergency.
