We are urgently seeking to find Mark, 62, who is reported missing from Ferring.

Mark was last seen at his home address in the early hours of Monday, 26 October.

He is 5’ 9”, with short grey hair and was last seen wearing a jumper, jogging bottoms and a green coat.

He also has links to Brighton and Newhaven.

If you have seen him, or know of his whereabouts, please contact police on 999, quoting serial 1306 of 26/10.

Road safety checks in

Officers from your local Neighbourhood Policing Team supported our Roads Policing Team today with speed enforcement checks in the Newhaven area; including The Hollow, Avis Road and Fort Road, following recent collisions and reports from residents regarding dangerous driving, including speeding.

These checks form part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and address concerns raised by the local community; we thank residents for continuing to report speeding, dangerous driving and other road safety concerns, helping us identify problem areas and carry out checks in locations where concerns have been raised.

Our checks also a timely reminder for all road users to take extra care when travelling.

Always drive at a speed appropriate for the road and traffic conditions, particularly during wet weather and throughout the Autumn and Winter months when visibility can be reduced and stopping distances increase.

A bit of a wet start across the district this morning.

Please take extra care on your commute, wet roads can significantly increase stopping distances and reduce tyre grip, making it harder to react to hazards.

When driving in the rain:

-Slow down and drive to the conditions
-Leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front
-Brake smoothly and in good time, avoid sudden braking or sharp steering
-Watch out for standing water, especially on bends and in dips in the road
-Use headlights if visibility is reduced
-Make sure your tyres, lights and windscreen wipers are in good condition

Allow yourself a little more time for your journey and stay safe on the roads today.

If you come across flooding on the highway, report it to your local highways authority. If you're involved in or witness a road traffic collision contact police.

With the clocks having changed and evenings arriving earlier, now is a good time to review your home security and make sure you're not giving burglars an opportunity.

Lock doors and windows, keep valuables out of sight, and consider using timer switches on lights, or Smart Speakers to make your home look and sound occupied when you're out.

Put away ladders, tools and other items that could help someone gain access to your home.

Secure sheds, garages and side gates, and make sure valuable equipment isn't left on display.

Keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood and report any concerns to police.

We continue to receive, and respond to reports of incidents across the district this morning, including road closures and fallen trees blocking roads following the overnight winds.

If you need to travel today, please take extra care and allow additional time for your journey.

Consider alternative routes where possible, and check local radio or news for traffic updates and reports for the latest information on road conditions before setting off.

Please avoid coastal areas and stay well back from the seafront, as strong winds and rough seas can create dangerous conditions.

Stay safe and only travel if necessary.

Hate crime awareness week

Last week officers across the Lewes district marked Hate Crime Awareness Week through their regular patrols and community engagement activity, dropping in on a number of local community groups, organisations and venues to raise awareness of what hate crimes and hate incidents are, how they can affect victims, and the support available to those affected.

Working alongside partners including Victim Support and Lewes and Eastbourne Council, officers spoke with many people during the week about the different offences that can constitute a hate crime or hate incident, how to report concerns, and the importance of reporting incidents when they occur.

Hate crime can, and does have a significant and lasting impact on victims, families and communities.

Support is available for all victims, and we encourage anyone affected, or anyone who witnesses a hate crime, to report it and seek support.

Together, we can help ensure everyone feels safe, respected and supported in our communities.
