🏆 A ‘Win’ for the town on the Bus Station - at least for now. Thank you everyone on Lewes Town Council! 🙏

Fresh off the bus back from Midhurst and celebrating a win for our town! (For now.) It has been great to work together, collaboratively, on LTC and with residents and community groups to get to this point. South Downs National Park Authority have refused the Generator Group planning application to redevelop the Bus Station on 7 grounds:

•The proposal makes no provision for the relocation of bus facilities
• The proposal makes no provision for affordable housing (including Lewes Low Cost Homes)
• The proposal would, by reason if it’s scale, massing, roof form and proposed materials, result in an overbearing and incongruous development within the conservation area
• The application would have unacceptable amenity impacts of No. 27 East Street through loss of daylight
• Insufficient information has been submitted on arxhialogical heritage and air quality
• The proposal fails to make satisfactory provision for tree planting
•In the absence of a Section 106 legal agreement the proposal is contrary to policies SD19, SD21, SD28 and SD57 of the South Downs Local Plan.

Lewes Welcomes Refugees.

These words are the most important statements we could make today. Thank you Lewes Constituency Labour Party

While Priti Patel and the Tories are prevaricating with their weasel words, we are loud, clear and consistent: when people suffer unimaginable misfortune in other countries and need safety, we welcome them.

Members of Lewes Labour Party spoke to passersby on Cliffe Bridge yesterday about the Health & Social Care Bill and it's impact on the NHS:

👎 private companies on Integrated Care Boards leading to more of the cronyism we've seen from this Tory government
👎poorer pensioners will have to pay even more under the revised social care cap
👎not nearly enough funding to tackle waiting lists

We also expressed our solidarity with the Ukraine at this terrible time by showing a Ukrainian flag.

Thank you to Barbara Keale, the Guardian of the Coat of Hopes and it's instigating artist for talking about it's journey from Newhaven to COP26 at a free evening event presented by Lewes Climate Hub on Friday night in the Lewes Labour offices at North Street.

Hundreds of people made the Coat of Hopes over hundreds of miles, and to hear the story of its incredible journey brought the hopes, griefs, remembrances and prayers of all of its makers back to life.

The evening event was followed the next day by a chance to wear the Coat of Hopes.
