❗National Drowning Prevention Week

Sea Cadets take water safety seriously.

As part of our water safety training we help young people learn how to stay safe in and around the water.

🙌Here are some Top Tips to keep you safe around the water:

📌If you suddenly fall into cold water, try not to panic or swim hard straight away, especially if you’re not wearing a buoyancy aid.
💙Cold water shock can make you gasp and feel out of control for the first minute or two.
✅Instead, float on your back, keep your head tilted back with your ears in the water, and use your hands to help you stay afloat while you calm your breathing.
❗Once the shock has passed, call for help or swim to safety if you’re able to.

❗Remember: Float to Live – it could save your life.

It’s been a busy week at TS Danae!

On Friday, our cadets enjoyed some training activities including map reading and first aid , and our juniors took part in photographing nature and building bug hotels! Huge thanks to LC Sophia from Welwyn Garden City & Hatfield Sea Cadets & Royal Marine Cadets for coming up and assisting with seamanship training for our new entries.

We will remember them

On this day 82 years ago, tens of thousands of courageous British and Allied soldiers, sailors and aircrew took part in the D-Day landings, the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Today we remember the service and sacrifice of all those involved, commencing the liberation of France and Western Europe and turning the tide in the Second World War. Together with personnel from the United States, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark and Poland, British forces showed immense courage, and endured great sacrifice.

We will remember them.

Without our lovely Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, our unit would not exist. Thank you to each and every one of you for all you do to support Letchworth & Hitchin unit, you’re valued more than you know!

April and May were busy months for the unit and as a result, we are a little bit late in celebrating these cadets.

JCFC Evie and JCFC Harriet have been awarded their STEM badges and their Yellow and Blue module badges. They were also promoted to AJC! BZ both of you 🩵

NEC Holly, and AJC Evie and AJC Harriet were awarded their CREST Award certificates, which were achieved for their hard work in the Junior stem modules (the CREST Awards scheme is the British Science Association’s flagship programme for young people)

Finally, after two years as a Junior Sea Cadet and completing her training as a New Entry Cadet, NEC Holly was promoted to Cadet after making her Sea Cadet promise in front of the ships company. BZ CDT Holly! 💙
