LEADER is a European Union initiative which forms part of the Scottish Government's Rural Development Programme for 2014-2020
The objective of LEADER is to provide opportunities for individuals, businesses and communities to come together to support rural development and provide long lasting benefits to the local area with particular emphasis on projects that are both innovative and ''bottom-up''.

When the activity of ShetlandPeerieMakkers came to an abrupt halt in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had just three months left of our project to rollout ShetlandPeerieMakkers groups across the whole of Shetland.

Over the past three years were have established 16 new ShetlandPeerieMakkers groups and have received fantastic support from our funders through the wonderful team at the Shetland Leader Programme.

We still have a few months of work ahead, but, we would just like to say thank you to - without you, we wouldn't have these happy 'peeriemakkers'!

Final deadlines approaching.
The deadline for the submission of Expressions of Interest is the 19th September 2018, applicants should note that they will need to be in a position to submit a full draft application by the end of November 2018 as all grants offer letters must be signed by March 2019.

Representation from across the 21 Local Action Groups as well as previous beneficiaries will be on hand to discuss how to access the substantial funding pot for rural Scotland. LEADER provides funding opportunities for farmers and a wide range of rural businesses.
