The medievalist and author Anne O'Brien will be giving a talk at Pembridge Medieval Festival on 25th May in Pembridge Church at 11.00 am. The subject is medieval women and the Mortimer connection to Pembridge. The Festival weekend corresponds with the start of the cream tea season in the Church for those that are partial! For those that are interested, May was also the month of the Cowslip Fair granted to Pembridge by Royal Charter in 1239. There was also a grant for the Woodcock Fair in November. Both were important events for trade and especially the wool trade, and for hiring skills and labour.

Our next medieval living history event is at Pembridge on 25th/26th May 2024.

Two dates for your diary this year. Following a successful Kyre Medieval Pageant commemorating the Battle of Mortimer's Cross in 1461, we will be repeating the Mortimer's Cross event at Kyre Park near Tenbury Wells on 16th/17th September. The venue includes 39 acres of renowned Capability Brown designed gardens, an antiques centre and a bistro/bar. The event is dog friendly. In addition we are holding a living history weekend at Kyre Park on 27th/28th May (second May Bank Holiday weekend). The theme is: "an English retinue in France during the Hundred Years War". Although there won't be a battle at this one it will be a relaxed show and tell on medieval life on campaign from 1337 to 1453. A big thank you to Kyre Park for supporting us and allowing us to hold these events.

Kyre Medieval Pageant (17th& 18th September) is still on despite the recent sad event. We will have a short remembrance for our late Queen at 10.50 am on both days involving a gun salute, one minute silence and piper's lament.

The Yorkist and Lancastrian lords are raising their armies for the impending confrontation at Kyre Medieval Pageant on 17th and 18th September. As the storm clouds gather the supporting retinues and their families are preparing their supplies and getting ready to move. Bring your family and friends to watch the impending slaughter and see how people lived, played and fought in 1461. Don't forget to bring your young sons and daughters: we need new recruits for the Royal army. See you there, Sir John Skydemore.

We are edging closer to Kyre Medieval Pageant on 17th/18th September. The venue is Kyre Park near Tenbury Wells and it starts at 10.30 am through till 5.00 pm. The theme is a commemoration of the Battle of Mortimer's Cross in 1461. This should be an attractive event for those that want a great day out at a historic local venue. Adult entry is 4.50 with children under 16 free of charge. As well as the medieval stuff there are 39 acres of Capability Brown designed gardens to walk around free of charge (including cave, grotto and lakes), an antiques barn and a licensed bistro. The event is dog friendly: you can even get a doggy ice cream from the bistro! If you can make it it will be good to see some familiar faces from previous Leominster events.
