This almost looks like 2 aliens 👽 👽 , but no… it’s a pair of Phylocrania paradoxa mantis mating in our breeding houses. As invertebrates are so short lived we have to constantly breed as many species as possible to ensure our cages in the display rooms are always occupied with as many amazing creatures as possible. You can still see these ghost mantis on display in our mantis house.

Just some of our beautiful tropical butterflies flying around the butterfly house this morning. Our little tropical paradise is open every day over the summer holidays and is a must see as these little jewels fly around you amongst the lush vegetation , and if you are especially lucky , one might even land on you !!! Our scorpion room at the Bug Parc is so popular because each cage is set up with black lights that make the scorpions literally glow in the dark. Here you can see the normal scorpion colour in red light being instantly transformed and brightly coloured under blacklight. No one knows why but they have been like this for millions of years. Come and experience over 230 different invertebrates species at the Bug Parc, a unique zoo , a unique experience. But book early as we are often fully booked.

This wasn’t filmed at The Bug Parc, but it was filmed in Norfolk and I felt the need to share with a wider audience as it was just quite stunning to witness and if you are following this page you must have an interest in bugs !!!! Most bee hives are not open to the elements like this so it was even more exciting to see it in the flesh. Took a bit of climbing to get the shot without disturbing them, but it was well worth the effort….. next year we are hoping to build our bee and butterfly gardens at the parc and will add some bee hives with a view to teaching our visitors why we need to help conserve our indigenous bee populations.

Another breeding success at The Bug Parc, this time with this amazing stick insect…Achrioptera fallax, the blue stick insect. This is a large insect native to Madagascar.These insects use aposematic (warning) coloration, displaying bright wing colours when threatened, but they also have neck glands which can spray a defensive scent. At 14cm for males and 18cm for females they are a large insect. These are not on display yet, but will be very soon.

They smell amazing and are exactly the sort of thing you would buy your mum/nan for Christmas when you’ve run out of ideas! We also have jars of the honey for sale too which I can testify tastes amazing! Get them while they’re in stock! 🐝 🍯 👵

We are now regularly becoming fully booked for advance bookings during the summer holidays and our popular handling experiences are seldom available without pre-booking. Please pre book your tickets to avoid disappointment. We allow 100 walk ins on fully booked days before 1pm, more thereafter. By not accepting too many visitors on any given day, it avoids overcrowding affording a better, more comfortable day for our visitors.
