❓Quick Fire Quiz ❓

Age Restricted Sales, do you know the rules?

Some products aren’t for everyone at every age and there is good reason.

Age restrictions keep young people safe. Businesses need to put procedures in place to sell responsibly.

Do you know the age restrictions on products? Have look below 👀

🔞Alcohol – 18

🔞Tobacco and v**es – 18

🎆Fireworks – 18

🎉Party poppers – 16

🛑Bladed products - 18

⚠️Energy drinks – Currently no age restriction

⚠️Nicotine pouches – Currently no age restrictions

Selling restricted products to underage customers is illegal and can get businesses into serious trouble.

Shops should always ask for and check ID, not sell age restricted products to young people to stay on the right side of the law.

Looking for a beautiful white smile?

Our team at East Midlands Airport regularly intercept imported teeth whitening products which are illegal for supply to consumers in the UK.

Tooth whitening products containing or releasing between 0.1% and 6% hydrogen peroxide can ONLY be sold to dental practitioners, not directly to consumers.

Remember, the law says that only registered dentists, dental therapists, dental hygienists or clinical dental technicians working to the prescription of a dentist can legally and safely provide tooth whitening treatment.

Follow NHS advice at on safe teeth whitening at: https://www.nhs.uk/tests-and-treatments/teeth-whitening/.

You can also search the General Dental Council’s online register to check if your practitioner is registered https://www.gdc-uk.org/

🐮 Our food team often take food samples to check for compliance with regulations. We take samples to check for the presence of undeclared dairy in milk alternative hot drinks.

☕ Milk frothers can pose a hidden risk for customers with a milk allergy or intolerance, due to residue from previous drinks causing accidental cross‑contamination between dairy products and milk alternative options.

ℹ We’re reminding businesses to clean equipment thoroughly and use separate equipment where possible. Accurate allergen information must be provided to customers so they can enjoy their drinks safely.

🐮 Trading Standards officers frequently visit cattle farms in Leicestershire, to ensure compliance with animal welfare, disease control, and feed hygiene regulations

ℹ The Code of Practice for the Welfare of Cattle provides guidance on how to comply with relevant welfare legislation. It is intended to help all those who care for cattle to practice good standards of stockmanship to safeguard cattle welfare.

🙋 You, and any staff working with cattle, must read, understand and have access to this code. Welfare codes are not law, but failing to follow them can be used as evidence in court to show breaches of legislation.

🐑 You must look after your animals in ways that meet their welfare needs, ensuring they don’t experience any unnecessary suffering or distress.

If a v**e is legal in the UK, it must meet strict rules 👇

✅ Tank capacity for the e-liquid can be no more than 2ml
✅ Refill containers no bigger than 10ml
✅ Rechargeable devices only (no disposable v**es)
✅ Must meet UK safety & labelling laws.

🔍 So we checked.
We measured several illegal v**es and refill containers to see if they stayed within the legal limits.

⚠️ What did we find?
Some tanks were over the 2ml limit.
Some were under.
Both are a problem.

👉 Don’t assume – to ensure that you have a complainant v**e, check the size of the tank, check the labelling to know what’s what.

You can report the sale of cheap, illegal to***co products and illegal v**es to us using our reporting form at https://tinyurl.com/24v4rss7
