Following a short recess (COVID/Pandemic), the East Midlands Joint MA/ATM branch are pleased to announce the first session of 2023.
Peter Mattock will deliver the first session of 2023. Arrive from 9am for a 9:30am start. Finished by 12:30pm.
An opportunity to come and see and hear about Peteโ€™s latest book.
If pupils only learn how to do lots of stuff in maths lessons, then maths education becomes what its detractors have always said it is: a series of disparate facts and processes that pupils simply have to try and remember.
The point of Conceptual Maths is that mathematical learning should start with pupils learning about a mathematical idea. Facts and processes can then be tied to this idea, which allows pupils to make sense of the maths that they study and to connect their mathematical learning in a coherent way as the ideas are revisited even when the facts and processes change.
In this session we will explore some mathematical ideas, what pupils should (probably) learn about them and how these concepts then develop coherently throughout a pupil's learning journey
