This morning, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Oliver Bryan joined forces with NFU Mutual Melton Mowbray and Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Policing Team for an "Operation Trailer Trace" event in Melton Mowbray.

Funded through the PCC's Community Action Fund Rural Crime round, the scheme is led and delivered by NFU Melton Mowbray, with the Rural Policing Team supporting the installation of the Datatag ID Limited forensic marking systems on trailers, machinery and other rural vehicles, free of charge for the local farming and rural community.

These unique markings deter theft and make stolen items easier to identify, recover and return if stolen.

Since its formation, the Rural Policing Team has recovered over £4 million worth of stolen property, highlighting the real impact of targeted initiatives like this.

Last week, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Neetu Squire joined two of our Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) on an unannounced visit to Keyham Lane custody suite, observing as they inspected the condition of the suite and spoke to detainees.

Independent Custody Visitors undertake visits in pairs to one of three custody suites in Leicester. During visits, ICVs speak with detainees to ensure that they are being treated fairly, ensure detainees receive their rights and entitlements, and check the conditions of the cells and custody suites. Any issues are raised with the Custody Sergeant and details of the visit are recorded.

There was also an opportunity to see recent enhancements to the suite, including a discreet booking-in room providing a more supportive environment, and a number of cells for children, young people and vulnerable detainees repainted a soft green with chalkboard walls, following consultation about their experiences of police custody.

The visit highlighted the important role ICVs play in ensuring transparency and accountability, giving the Deputy PCC valuable insight into how detainees are treated in custody.

Great to see partners coming together to support community leaders and find more collaborative ways to connect with young people 👇

⭐Community leaders Network Training Update⭐

We were pleased to have the incredible Jerome Harvey-Agyei and Leonita Metaj join us last week to host a dedicated session on the Power of Participation and Leading with Love for the Community Leaders Network.

The session included:
• Reflection on current approaches to involving children and young people
• Interactive activities to use directly with young people
• Sharing of practice, challenges and learning across organisations

The event was hosted by the Spinney Hill Recovery Centre and delivered as a collaborative initiative between the Community Leaders Network (CLN), the Violence Reduction Network (VRN) and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC). These sessions link closely to the VRN's priorities "Providing Collaborative and Courageous Leadership" and "Building Protective and Cohesive Communities".

Crime prevention champions across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are celebrating a share of almost £154k to boost their efforts to reduce violence and vulnerability.

Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews today announced the outcome of his latest Community Action Fund (CAF) round which has seen 18 community organisations, charities and voluntary groups benefitting from grants to power new solutions to recurrent problems.

Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Neetu Squire visited Live Cancer Free in Leicester this week to see first-hand the delivery of a new women’s road safety initiative. The Safe Roads, Safe Communities project has been funded through the recent road safety round of the PCC’s Community Action Fund.

The project is a community-led safety, prevention and education initiative designed to reduce road-related harm among BAME women in Leicester City. Ten structured workshops are being delivered, combining practical simulations with theory-based learning, supported by a multilingual, community-designed road safety booklet.

By bringing people together and sharing practical advice, the project is helping women feel more confident, informed and safer when using the roads in their day-to-day lives.

Communities with long-standing road safety issues are benefiting from extra funding to encourage motorists to slow down and heed speed limits.

Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews has set aside an additional £30k for community-driven road safety projects in response to the huge demand for grants in the latest round of his Community Action Fund.

Today, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Oliver Bryan attended the launch of the Leicestershire Police Summer 2026 Drink Drug Drive Campaign in Melton Mowbray.

The campaign officially kicked off this morning with a FATAL4 road safety operation in the centre of Melton, with officers stopping road users identified as committing traffic offences. The operation combined enforcement activity with road safety engagement alongside Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service to highlight the dangers and consequences of drink and drug driving.

The campaign coincides with the upcoming football World Cup, with a continued focus on tackling drink and drug driving and keeping people safe on the roads across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
