Lord Mayor of Leicester The Lord Mayor is Leicester's First Citizen, who's role is primarily to fulful ceremonial duties and to support and promote the City of Leicester.

The Lord Mayor is elected at the Annual Meeting of Council in May and holds office for one year.

Yesterday, a special Civic Service was held at Leicester Cathedral to welcome the Lord Mayor of Leicester Councillor Kulwinder Singh Johal. The service well attended by Civic dignitaries from across Leicestershire, significant officeholders from across the city and many of the Lord Mayor’s Family and friends. The event bought together members of the community for a meaningful and reflective occasion.
The service included a selection of readings that highlighted the values of unity, service, and community spirit. An Act of Dedication was led by Canon Alison Adams, adding a solemn and significant moment to the proceedings.
It was a fitting event held in the historic surroundings of Leicester Cathedral, celebrating the city’s rich traditions and the importance of civic life.

Taking in first hand the work of one of his chosen charities, the Lord Mayor visited Midland Langar Seva Society's free food distribution at St Peter's Church. MLSS is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals facing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity and it was inspiring to see how hard all the volunteers work to help those in need of a hot meal. The Lord Mayor was delighted to attend the 1st Reunion of the 80s Leo Club (UK & Ireland Chapter) in Leicester yesterday.
The gathering brought together former members of the Leo Club movement, who as young people in 1980s Nigeria worked tirelessly to support their communities through fundraising and charitable projects. Their efforts helped provide essential support for vulnerable people and demonstrated the power of young people working together to make a difference.
Leo Clubs are the official youth service organisation of Lions Clubs International, empowering young people aged 12–30 and is built on the core -Leadership, Experience and Opportunity (L-E-O). The organisation continues to inspire young people around the world to contribute positively at local, national and international levels.

It was a pleasure for the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to attend the ‘Nightingale of India’ Music Festival on Friday. They thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful tribute to the legendary Lata Mangeshkar. The talented singers and musicians brought so many timeless Bollywood classics to life, creating a truly nostalgic and heartwarming atmosphere.
A big thank you to ’All About the Music Hub’ for organising such a memorable event and bringing people together through the joy of music. It was a fantastic celebration of an iconic voice that continues to inspire generations.
