🚒 Vehicle Fire Safety Reminder 🚒

Today, crews from Western Station Red Watch attended a vehicle fire. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the incident was brought under control quickly.

This serves as a reminder to all motorists to be aware of the warning signs that could indicate a vehicle fire:

⚠️ Unusual burning smells
⚠️ Smoke coming from the engine bay or under the vehicle
⚠️ Electrical faults, flickering lights, or repeated blown fuses
⚠️ Fluid leaks, especially fuel or oil
⚠️ Engine overheating

If you notice any of these signs while driving:

✅ Pull over as soon as it is safe to do so
✅ Turn off the engine
✅ Get everyone out of the vehicle immediately
✅ Move to a safe distance away from the vehicle
✅ Call 999 and request the Fire Service

❌ Do not attempt to tackle a well-developed vehicle fire yourself.
❌ Do not open the bonnet if smoke or flames are visible, as this can cause the fire to intensify.

Regular vehicle maintenance and acting quickly when warning signs appear can help prevent serious incidents.

Training never stops 🔥

On Friday, crews from Western Station Red Watch, carried out a Breathing Apparatus (BA) drill at Central Station — sharpening the skills that keep both firefighters and the public safe.

Working in smoke-filled, high-risk environments demands confidence, teamwork, and absolute trust in our equipment. BA training ensures we’re always ready to respond when it matters most.

Some of the images captured during the drill are from a thermal imaging camera, as visibility in the scenario was zero — highlighting the challenging conditions firefighters often face.

🎁Give the Gift of Safety This Christmas

The Office for Product Safety and Standards wants to ensure your holiday stays merry and bright. If Santa is delivering an e-bike or e-scooter to your home this year, please follow these "Five Golden Rules" for a fire-safe festive season:

📖Research Like an Elf: Only BUY from reputable, well-known sellers. Before you click "purchase," check those product reviews to ensure you’re getting a quality gift.

👀Read the Manual: Before the first ride, always READ and FOLLOW the manufacturer’s instructions. It’s the best way to keep your new wheels in top shape.

✅Check Your Tech: Not all batteries and chargers play nice together. Only USE the manufacturer’s recommended equipment—mixing and matching can be a dangerous combination.

⚡Charge with Care: Always charge in a safe, open area that doesn't block your exits. Most importantly, unplug once the battery is full. Never leave them charging overnight while the household is asleep.🔋

Never Tamper: To keep the magic alive, never attempt to modify or tamper with your battery.

Most importantly.... Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏼

❗️Subject: Avoiding the Naughty List This Christmas🚫🎅

"Tis the season for twinkling lights, festive decorations, and... overloading electrical sockets🎄

Let's keep the Christmas spirit bright and avoid landing on the naughty list this year.

Here's a friendly reminder:

❄️ Don't overload those sockets! Too many plugs in one outlet can cause over heating and potentially start a fire.

❄️ Unplug decorations when you leave the house or go to bed.

❄️ Check for frayed cords and damaged decorations

Let's keep our homes safe and enjoy the festive period.
