Retail Crime Update

Charlie Peel has been arrested and charged with several offences relating to shop theft following an investigation by local officers.

Retail crime has a significant impact on businesses, staff and the wider community. We remain committed to working with our retail partners to identify offenders, investigate offences and bring those responsible before the courts.

Incident Update

Officers from the Cultural Quarter Team attended an incident this afternoon involving a female who was on the outside of a bridge barrier.

With support from PCSO Zed of the Westcotes Team, road closures were put in place and officers worked together to ensure the safety of all involved.

The female was safely brought to a place of safety and is now receiving the appropriate support and care.

We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the incident was brought to a safe conclusion.

Closure Order Granted for City Centre Gaming Lounge

Officers from the NC04 Dedicated Neighbourhood Team have successfully obtained a two-month Closure Order on a city centre gaming lounge following ongoing concerns about antisocial behaviour linked to the premises.

The Closure Order was granted by the court after officers presented evidence demonstrating that activity associated with the location was having a significant negative impact on local residents and businesses. The order prohibits access to the premises for a period of two months.

PC Georgie, the officer leading the case, said:

"I'm pleased that the court has agreed with the findings presented by police and recognised the impact this location was having on the local community. This order will help improve the quality of life for those living and working nearby, while also safeguarding young people and diverting them away from behaviour that was causing concern."

The application was supported by extensive evidence gathered by the NC04 team, with Sergeant Tompkins attending court to provide evidence on behalf of officers involved in the investigation.

Sergeant Tompkins said:

"As the neighbourhood policing team, we are committed to making Leicester a safer and more pleasant place for everyone. I'm pleased the court has granted this Closure Order, enabling swift action to address the antisocial behaviour connected to this premises and protect those affected by it."

We will continue working with residents, businesses and partner agencies to identify and tackle locations that are causing harm to our communities.

Today, PC Callum and PC Merryn were out on patrol carrying out enquiries on the Riverside area.

As part of these enquiries, officers attended an address where a significant quantity of controlled medication was discovered and subsequently seized. In total, approximately 30,000 individual Pregabalin capsules were recovered.

This seizure forms part of a larger ongoing investigation involving multiple agencies, including Border Force, highlighting the continued collaborative efforts being made to tackle the supply and distribution of illegal drugs and protect our communities from harm.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we are unable to provide further details at this time. However, this result demonstrates the proactive work being undertaken by local officers and partner agencies to disrupt criminal activity and keep our neighbourhoods safe.

🚍 You might usually see your local beat officers travelling by patrol car, van, bicycle or on foot, but did you know we sometimes use public transport too?

Using the bus can be an efficient way for us to travel across our area, helping us cover more ground and remain visible within our communities.

It also gives us the opportunity to provide a reassuring presence on the public transport network, helping to deter theft, antisocial behaviour and other crime while engaging with passengers along the way.

Whilst on patrol last night, I observed a vehicle driving around Princess Road East.

The manner of driving was questionable. The vehicle had a defective headlight and was being driven with the cab light illuminated. As I stopped my vehicle and left sufficient room for it to pass, the driver mounted the pavement in order to get by.

A few minutes later, the same vehicle passed me again, so I followed it until it came to a stop.

I spoke with the driver and carried out further checks, which revealed that he was driving on a provisional licence without the required supervision and was also driving without insurance.

The vehicle was subsequently seized.

Today, PCSO Zed carried out patrols in areas affected by ongoing anti-social behaviour concerns.

During these patrols, a vehicle was found blocking the pavement. The owner arrived just before the vehicle was due to be removed. Keeping pavements clear and accessible for all members of the public is essential, and the driver received strong words of advice regarding their parking.

PCSO V was at Castle Gardens today hosting a Bike Register event. Several bikes were marked and added to the BikeRegister database and also provided with safety advise to help keep their bikes secure when not in use

📋 BikeRegister is the UK's national cycle database, helping police identify and return stolen bikes to their rightful owners.
❎ Security marking and registering your bike can act as a deterrent to thieves and increase the chances of recovery if it is stolen.

🔒 Remember to keep your bike secure by:
• Using a good quality D-lock or Sold Secure approved lock
• Locking your bike to a fixed, secure object
• Removing accessories when leaving your bike unattended
• Storing your bike in a secure location whenever possible

While carrying out patrols, I responded to a report of a shoplifting offence at Tesco on Welford Place, resulting in the arrest of a suspected shoplifter 🛒🚔.

This will result in your car being seized!
