Orange bags can be used to recycle a large number of materials, and make it easy and simple for residents to recycle. Some flats in the city are provided with communal bins instead of orange bags, which can be used to recycle the same items. It is important that we recycle as much as possible across

Work continues at a fly tipping hotspot on Nottingham Road. After investigations there are 4 bins which do not belong to any of the businesses or flats so the company and Biffa have been notified to remove them so they are not misused and attracting more fly tipping.

Rushey Mead city warden and local police were out last night visiting hotspot and problem areas. Complaints received about cars left without tax on Lanesborough Road. 3 vehicles removed for not having tax. Large banner removed from street furniture at the roundabout.

2 more £600 fines issued by the Enviro Crime Team for fly tipping at East Park Road recycling banks and another on Walton Street. Items would have been collected for free using the bulky waste service or could have been taken to the tip.

We all love spoiling our pets, but unfortunately pet food pouches can't be disposed of in your orange bags or shared recycling bins.

So, why can’t we accept pet food pouches for recycling? Generally, the pouches are made up of at least three, very thin layers of different plastics, foils and glues. Each layer plays a role in ensuring our pet's food is fresh and tasty. But these layers are very difficult to separate for recycling, and not many recycling plants can process mixed materials.

So what can you do?
1) Several larger pet shops and some supermarkets now collect clean, empty pouches for recycling.
2) Switch to pet food in tins, which we can collect for recycling in your orange bags.
3) Dispose of your pouches in the black bin after use. Even if they’re not being recycled, they won't end up contaminating your good recycling.
