Today marks the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026 - a moment of celebration, pride, and unity for millions around the world. For many, it’s a time to come together with friends and family, to share joy, support their teams, and connect with their communities.

But for some, this period brings something very different.
Research has shown that incidents of domestic abuse can increase during major football events, rising by 38% when England lose and 29% when they win. Behind the excitement and celebration, there are people who spend this time in fear, unsure of what each match result might bring in their own homes.

While the World Cup is a source of happiness for many, it can mark over a month of anxiety and danger for victims of domestic abuse.

If you or someone you know is at risk, please remember: you are not alone, and there is support available. Reaching out can make a difference.

💜 Sometimes, a few words can capture an entire journey.

As one of our clients prepared to leave refuge and move forward independently, she shared these beautiful words with us:

"I was like dust, but dust can fuse and become like jewels. When we are strong we can glow like rubies."

Seeing the client leave with renewed strength, hope, and confidence was a privilege. Before she left, she took the time to write a personalised card for each member of our team who supported her along the way. Those thoughtful gestures meant more than words can express.

Moments like these remind us why our work matters. Every day, we witness incredible courage, resilience, and determination from the women and children we support. We are honoured to walk alongside them as they rebuild their lives and discover their own strength.

To our former client – thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. We wish you every happiness, success, and opportunity as you begin this new chapter.
