NEST REMOVAL ๐Ÿ
Churchbell Way will close Tuesday 15th, and reopen 10am Wednesday 16th, as work is undertaken to remove a hornet's nest. The Bennion Pools spinney section is affected where they are removing diseased ash trees, and the nest is in a tree near the Lodge end. Diversion will likely be via the Pools track. The field edge bridleway, St. Mellion path to bridleway fence gap, will not be available

Brief info
A hornet's nest is a highly organized, paper-like structure built by a hornet colony to rear their young and protect their queen. These complex hives are engineered entirely from chewed wood pulp mixed with saliva, creating a lightweight yet sturdy shelter. https://m.youtube.com/shorts/OK4YTnHrp44

๐Ÿšธ A Reminder to Parents and Carers Across Leicestershire ๐Ÿšธ

Today, officers attended Forest Lodge Academy following ongoing reports of dangerous and inconsiderate parking and driving around the school at drop-off and pick-up times.

Unfortunately, the issues being reported are as bad, if not worse, than before the summer holidays.

Vehicles have been observed stopping on or near zigzag markings, parking in unsafe locations and creating hazards for children, parents and other road users.

We are working closely with schools and providing letters to parents and carers explaining the law around school entrance markings and highlighting the enforcement action that can be taken.

โ— See attached a copy of the letter for your awarenessโ—

This message does not just apply to Forest Lodge. We are seeing similar issues at schools right across Leicestershire, and we will continue carrying out patrols at locations where concerns are raised.

โš ๏ธ Remember:

โœ… Zigzag markings are there to protect children.
โœ… Stopping or parking on them is an offence.
โœ… Obstructive or dangerous parking can result in enforcement action.
โœ… Children's safety should never be compromised for convenience.
โœ… Walk or bike to school where possible

Parents and carers are encouraged to allow a little extra time for their journey, park legally, and consider walking the final part of the route where possible.

Our priority is keeping children safe as they travel to and from school. Please help us achieve that by parking responsibly and setting a good example for young people.

W**D CONTROL
"We aim to reduce the use of w**d killers, including glyphosate, and use alternative methods where possible.

We are committed to:-
- trialling non glyphosate-based products

- use of controlled droplet applicators for targeted spraying

- not using glyphosate-based products in or around children's play areas.."

We're pleased to confirm that we have now started the second city-wide w**d treatment programme.

Starting in Braunstone Park & Rowley Fields ward, the treatment programme will progress around the city in an anticlockwise direction.

Subject to weather conditions, we hope to have finished by the 31st October, and residents should begin to see signs of w**d die-back within 7 to 12 days of treatment.

We'll continue to monitor Love Clean Streets requests, and provide follow-up monitoring and treatment where necessary. Thank you for you patience while this work is being undertaken.

**** GOOD NEWS ****

I've said many times that, as neighbourhood officers, we do our very best to guide, support and sometimes even mentor young people before ever thinking about criminalising them.

That was certainly borne out today when I had the absolute pleasure of bumping into a young man who, many years ago, was a small child known to both myself and PCSO Mark due to some low-level but rather persistent ASB.

We spent many occasions talking to him (and, let's be honest, telling him off! ๐Ÿ˜„), taking him home to his Nan, who would quite rightly tell him off as well. Over time, he gradually dropped off our radar.

Fast forward to today, and he reintroduced himself to me as a handsome young man driving a nice car. He proudly told me he is now married, has two beautiful daughters, a good job, and his own home. โค๏ธ

The hug he gave me absolutely made my day.

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do and the priceless value of Neighbourhood Policing and officers that know their residents.
We really are proud to do our job. ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’™
