🔥 “Very likely” the City Mayor will be scrapped. Soulsby says councillors will get a vote before May 2027, but refuses to name the date.

So here’s the question: do we sit back and wait for a failing Labour national government to step in, or fix Leicester now?

In just one summer, four independent bodies slammed core services:
⚠️ Adult Social Care: Requires Improvement
⚠️ Children’s Services & Youth Justice: Requires Improvement
⚠️ Housing Regulator: no full condition surveys since 2009, 70% without electrical checks
⚠️ Tribunal-backed racial discrimination case: Labour fought, lost, and wasted your money three times

Next week, our motion in the council chamber will:
✅ Scrap the failed mayoral model and move to a Leader & Cabinet with real scrutiny
✅ Publish housing safety KPIs (gas, electrical, fire, asbestos) with independent audit
✅ Deliver statutory improvement plans for Children’s & Adult Social Care with public milestones
✅ Guarantee petitions: 1,200 signatures = full council debate

We stand for growth, jobs, fairness and a council that answers to you, not itself. If change is “very likely,” let’s set the date and make it real.

👉 If you had the deciding vote, would you keep the City Mayor or back a Leader & Cabinet with stronger scrutiny? What needs fixing first in Leicester?

It’s time for a council that listens and delivers.

Renewed calls for the role to end have been made amid claims it has 'failed'

THIS SATURDAY – LET’S TAKE A STAND FOR NETHERHALL

The Armadale Centre has been left to rot while the Council wastes millions on pet projects. Enough is enough. Residents are ready to bring Armadale back to life, run by the community, for the community.

We’re looking forward to seeing local residents at the protest this Saturday. Your voice matters, and the more of us there are, the harder we hit.

📅 Saturday 30 August
🕒 12PM (Midday)
📍 Outside Armadale Centre, Netherhall

Bring friends, family and neighbours. Let’s send the Council a message they can’t ignore: Give Armadale back to the people.

Across Netherhall, community spaces are under threat. The Armadale Centre has been left empty for years, despite growing demand for activities, youth services, and local events.

Netherhall is being ignored.

The Armadale Centre belongs to our community, yet the Council has kept it locked up for years.
While they waste money elsewhere, we’re losing activities, youth services, and a place to come together.

Enough is enough. With the support of Shivani Raja MP, we’ve teamed up with the Netherhall Community Association to demand the Council give Armadale back to the people, run by the community, for the community.

📢 Sign the petition now and show the Council we won’t sit quietly while they neglect Netherhall. The more names we have, the harder we hit.

In Netherhall, families have been left in unsafe homes while Labour councillors looked after each other.

⚡ 70% of council homes across Leicester haven’t had a proper electrical safety check
☣️ The Council can’t prove homes are safe from asbestos
🗓️ The last full survey was 2009

Labour are still making excuses.
When complaints are ignored and homes are unsafe, something has gone badly wrong.

We’re ready to fix it. You deserve councillors who show up, back Netherhall, and answer to you – not each other. It’s time for action that puts your house, your street and your safety first.

The council is 'unable to evidence' its homes are free of the most serious 'hazards'

🧾 They wasted your money on a cover-up, now they say there’s nothing left for our community centre.

Labour’s Leicester City Council fought a discrimination case and lost. Not once. Not twice. Three times.

Instead of funding services like Netherhall Neighbourhood Centre, they poured your money into defending the indefensible, and they’re still refusing to say how much.

🚫 3 court defeats
💸 £██████ in taxpayer cash (and counting)
🏘️ 1 threatened community centre
🪑 0 resignations

Still no answers from the City Mayor. Still no accountability. Still no funding for the services that actually matter.

📢 Share this if you think your money should go to Netherhall — not Labour’s legal disasters.

Thousands signed petitions to save libraries and community centres across Leicester. Last night, the Labour-run Council blocked the debate and pushed it behind closed doors.

Netherhall Neighbourhood Centre is one of the centres now at risk under Labour’s plans. Local people deserve answers in public, not stitched-up decisions in secret.

Cllr Hemant Rae Bhatia explains why every opposition councillor walked out in protest, and why we won’t stop fighting for your voice to be heard.

Sadly, the Labour Humberstone and Hamilton councillors sat there in silence. They didn’t stand up for you. They wouldn’t dare upset the boss, would they.

Watch, share and stand with us.

The Community Must Do Better – Our Future Is on the Line

From the team at the Netherhall Community Association, we need to be honest:

We were deeply disappointed by Wednesdays turnout—both at the 5pm protest and the open consultation meeting at the Netherhall Neighbourhood Centre.

This consultation isn’t a formality. It’s not just paperwork.
It’s our only real chance to speak up before decisions are made about the future of our last remaining community space.

The consultation closes on 29th June 2025.

🏛️ What’s at Stake?

Let’s be clear:
• No swimming pool in Netherhall
• No library in Netherhall
• The Armadale Centre? Closed for 13 years

Now, the Netherhall Neighbourhood Centre—our last active community hub is under review.

So what’s left for us?

For our children?
For our older residents?
For families trying to stay connected?

Take a walk through Netherhall.
Ask yourself: What do we really have?

A small play area for toddlers.
A few outdoor gym machines.
A ball court.

And that’s it.

Let’s not pretend it’s enough. Because it isn’t.
Right now, Netherhall has almost nothing.
But we still have a say—if we act now.

🗣️ Why Your Voice Matters

This is our community.
If we stay silent, the decision will be made for us, not with us.

The Armadale Centre isn’t part of this consultation—it’s been closed too long. But we haven’t forgotten it. We’re working on a separate plan to bring it back. That fight continues.

But today, the focus is on the Neighbourhood Centre.
We need to show the council that Netherhall cares.
That we’re engaged. That we’re not giving up.

🤝 We’re Not Alone in This

We’re proud to be supported by:
• Shivani Raja MP
• Councillors Stephen Bonham, Ashiedu Joel, and Manjit Kaur Saini
• PC572 Martin Sneath and Leicestershire Police
• And many local residents who’ve stepped up and spoken out

We all have busy lives. Jobs. Families. Commitments.

But if we don’t make time to fight for this now—what will be left for the next generation? Think about it…..?

📣 Final Words

Community matters.

And in Netherhall, it still means something.

Let’s show the council we’re here.
Let’s speak up.
Let’s stand together.

Let’s fight—for the Neighbourhood Centre.
For Armadale Centre (zodiac)
For Netherhall.

We need your voice. Your presence. Your action.
Thanks for being with us…?

YOUR LABOUR COUNCILLORS VOTED TO KEEP NETHERHALL NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE UNDER THREAT

Last night, hundreds protested outside Town Hall. People from all over Leicester, including from Netherhall came to say: Stop the closures. Save our libraries, museums, and community centres.

But inside the council chamber?
❌ Not one Labour councillor spoke up for Humberstone & Hamilton.
❌ Not one defended the Netherhall Neighbourhood Centre.
❌ Labour voted to keep the closure plans alive.

Conservative councillors demanded:
🛑 Cancel the consultation
⏸️ Pause the museum closure plans
✂️ Cut senior management pay — not local services

Labour blocked it all.

We won’t let this go.

We’re taking this campaign to every street in Humberstone, Hamilton and Netherhall — because this community deserves better.

Labour turned their backs.
We’re standing up for you.

Despite a powerful protest outside Leicester Town Hall and a packed public gallery inside, Labour councillors voted to keep their deeply unpopular plan alive - a plan that threatens the future of community centres, libraries and museums across the city.

🚨 On Wednesday, Humberstone, Hamilton & Netherhall’s Labour councillors will have a choice.

✅ Vote to protect Netherhall Recreation Centre & Leicester’s other libraries and community centres.
❌ Or back the City Mayor’s reckless plan to cut them.

Families, young people, and older residents rely on these places. They're not luxuries — they're lifelines.

Labour's City Mayor says there’s no money...
Yet millions are still being spent on city centre vanity projects nobody asked for:
🚧 Demolishing the train station entrance
🏛️ Revamping a museum closed for 5 years
☕ Opening a new council-run café
💸 Endless money for other city centre vanity projects, nothing for our communities

Enough is enough.

We’ve forced a special council meeting this Wednesday.
Now every Labour councillor has to decide:

👉 Will they side with local people – or with the City Mayor?
👉 Will they fight for your services – or let your community spaces close?

They work for you, not him.

📢 Make your voice heard before Wednesday:

➡️ Email your Labour councillors now – ask them to vote to STOP the cuts - https://cabinet.leicester.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.aspx?bcr=1

➡️ Take part in the public consultation and sign our petition: https://www.leicesterconservatives.com/campaigns/protect-our-libraries

This is a moment for real leadership – not more excuses.

Labour councillors including Steve Bonham have a simple choice:
Fight for your community – or betray it.
