A Change of Mind in Leeds 😂

Officers from the Leeds District Off Road Bike Team attempted to stop a motorbike in the Little London area being ridden with a passenger who was not wearing a helmet.

The rider initially stopped and both occupants got off the bike.

The rider then removed his own helmet, placed the bike on its stand, opened the seat and looked directly at the officer…

…and then ran!

The rider made off on foot, crossing a dual carriageway and attempting to escape over a wall. Despite officers giving chase, he managed to get away from the immediate area.

That, however, wasn't the end of the matter.

Officers from the team carried out further enquiries at the registered keeper's address. A rather different account was initially provided.

Back at the station, officers reviewed their body-worn video and there wasn't much room for doubt. The rider was identified as the same person officers had attempted to stop.

Further enquiries followed, the 16-year-old was interviewed and has now been dealt with for the relevant offences.

A reminder that running away doesn't necessarily mean running away from the consequences. 😉

The bike was also dealt with appropriately as part of the investigation.

📢 Speed Enforcement Update – Weetwood Area 🚔

Following concerns raised at the PACT Meeting on 11 August 2026, officers have been carrying out speed enforcement checks across the Weetwood area. Officers spent between 20 and 40 minutes at each location monitoring vehicle speeds and engaging with motorists.

Thursday 20 August 2026

📍 Parkstone Grove (20mph Zone) ✅ 17 vehicles checked ✅ No speeding offences detected

📍 Iveson Drive (20mph Zone) ✅ 31 vehicles checked ⚠️ 1 speeding ticket issued

Saturday 22 August 2026

📍 Becketts Park Drive (20mph Zone) ✅ 19 vehicles checked ⚠️ 1 driver advised regarding their speed

📍 St Chad's Drive (20mph Zone) ✅ 34 vehicles checked ⚠️ 1 driver advised regarding their speed

📍 Weetwood Lane (20mph Zone) ✅ 29 vehicles checked ⚠️ 3 drivers spoken to regarding their speed 🚨 3 speeding tickets issued

Results

🚗 130 vehicles checked 🚨 4 speeding tickets issued ⚠️ 5 drivers advised or spoken to regarding their speed

Whilst on patrol in Guiseley, officers dealt with a vehicle that attempted to avoid police.

Checks confirmed the vehicle was uninsured, and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Appropriate action was taken, and the vehicle was seized.

Roof tents and camping equipment can be a significant investment, so it's worth taking a few simple steps to help keep them secure.

🔒 Consider using locking straps or other approved security devices to make opportunist theft more difficult.

🏷️ Mark your property and equipment so it can be identified as yours if recovered. Property marking and registering valuable items can help police return stolen property to its rightful owner.

🚗 Park in well-lit locations where possible and avoid leaving valuables on display inside your vehicle.

✅ Take a few moments to check your equipment is secure before leaving it unattended.

A little preparation can go a long way in protecting your gear and giving you peace of mind while enjoying the outdoors.
