September is a pretty good time to get your hands dirty. 🌱

Our Roots & Shoots gardening group at Nowell Mount is back every Monday and you don’t need to know your compost from your courgettes to join in!

Come along, spend a couple of hours outside, help out in the garden and meet some of the people who make our community garden what it is.

And once you've finished in the garden, our Welcome Space is there too, where you can enjoy a free community meal, often made using produce grown right here. 🥕🩵

The school bags are back, the alarm clocks are going off again and the summer holidays are officially over! 🎒

Our Let’s Read volunteers will soon be heading back into local primary schools, picking up where they left off and spending time reading one-to-one with children across Leeds.

And if the return to routine has got you thinking about doing something a little different this autumn, why not join them?

You don’t need to be a teacher or have loads of experience. Just an hour a week can make a real difference to a child’s confidence with reading.

A lovely day at Waitrose Meanwood! 🩵📒

A huge thank you to Waitrose for inviting us to be one of their Community Matters causes and, importantly, giving us the chance to chat to local people about the difference Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is making for families across East Leeds. 📚

We held our stall just days before Dolly’s sad passing, which made those conversations feel even more special. It was lovely to share what the programme means to us and hear such positive reactions from the community.

And yes… the Dolly cut-out was definitely a hit!

Thank you again to the Waitrose Meanwood team for helping us spread the word and shine a light on such a special programme.

Happy Bank Holiday! ☀️

Our Let's Grow Together sessions are taking a break today, so there won't be an event at Ashton Park this afternoon.

We'll be back next Monday from 2–4pm with more nature activities, arts and crafts, seed growing and free refreshments. 🌱

We made the national news! 📺📚💗

We were incredibly excited to be invited onto ITV News to talk about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library following the sad news of Dolly’s passing.

Our amazing Project Officer Louise represented CLP in her interview, talking about the difference the programme is making for families here in East Leeds 🥹📚

We are beyond honoured to be the first organisation in Leeds to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to local children, and seeing the programme recognised on national television was a very special moment for all of us.

Dolly created something truly incredible and we’re so proud to be carrying that work forward here in Leeds. ❤️

What a legacy Dolly Parton leaves behind 💗📚

In 1995, Dolly started sending books to children in her home county, inspired by her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

What started as a way to help children discover the joy of reading has grown into a global movement, reaching millions of children.

Last year, CLP became part of that mission, bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to families across East Leeds and helping children get the best possible start with reading 📒

Our hearts are incredibly sad today, but we’re more determined than ever to continue the work Dolly started.

We’ve already received some incredibly generous donations from people wanting to help us keep her mission going, including one from all the way over in America. 🩵

This is a face-to-face role in Leeds, working directly with participants to build confidence, overcome barriers and prepare for employment, while also building relationships with employers and helping create the right opportunities.

⏰ Minimum 21 hours per week
💷 £26,815–£28,462.50 full-time equivalent

But you'll probably remember the person who sat beside you while you read it. 📚🩵

That's what our Let's Read volunteers do. An hour each week. A child who needs a little encouragement. A quiet space to build confidence without pressure.

It isn't about being a teacher. It's about showing up, listening and helping a child realise they can do it.
