We want to sincerely thank all our wonderful volunteers, including our trustees, whose support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our service users with sight loss. We couldn't do what we do without them.

It was truly uplifting to spend time with our volunteers and to appreciate their commitment and dedication. We missed those who couldn’t join us but feel their warm support as well. 🙏

If anyone is interested in volunteering, please contact us.

Mental Health Awareness is important for everyone — but for people living with sight loss, the emotional impact can often go unseen.

Vision impairment can bring feelings of isolation, anxiety, loss of confidence, and challenges with independence. That’s why support, connection, and understanding matter so much.

At our charity, we believe looking after mental wellbeing is just as important as supporting physical needs. Through community, guidance, and accessible support, we aim to ensure no one faces sight loss alone.
We thank Forum Central and Touchstone to give us an opportunity to participate in the Mental health event at Kirkgate market. We encourage everyone to:
💚 Check in on one another.
💚 Listen without judgement.
💚 Promote accessibility and inclusion.
💚 Remember that mental health support should be accessible to all.

Together, we can create a more understanding and supportive world for people with visual impairments.

Today at Saath Women’s Group, we were delighted to welcome staff from the Reginald Centre Job Shop, invited by ABA, to support women with building strong and professional CVs. The session included helpful guidance, CV templates, and example CVs to inspire and support women on their employment journey. ✨

This was the first of 3 exciting sessions booked with the Reginald Job Shop! There’s so much more to come — including job search support, interview preparation tips, help looking at current vacancies, and advice to boost confidence and skills. 💼

If you’re looking to get back into work, explore new opportunities, or simply improve your employability skills, come along and join us! These sessions are friendly, supportive, and full of valuable advice. We look forward to seeing more women benefit from this amazing opportunity! 🌸

We're learning more, so we can help you more!

Last week staff attended training about benefits, learning more about how to help service users apply for vital benefits like PIP and Attendance Allowance.

If you're disabled, these benefits can help you manage the extra costs that are involved in getting out and about and managing your daily life.

ABA staff now have a much better understanding of how the process helps and how to help people apply for them.

Thank you to Scott at Welfare Rights at Leeds Council for this brilliant training. We all learned so much and can use it to help our clients.

A big success at ABA last week!
One of our members had signed up to a monthly app subscription without realising it. By accident she had clicked a link in a text and signed up. Because of her low vision she couldn't see that she had signed up to pay a monthly charge of £22. She had paid nearly £100 over the months for a subscription she wasn't using!

ABA staff were on hand to help, contacting the app provider to explain the situation. Not only did they get the subscription cancelled, but they were also able to get the lady a refund for the amount she'd already paid.

Do you know somebody who could benefit from support from ABA?

Staff can help with:

Advocacy - understanding letters and bills, making appointments
Form filling - applying for benefits or mobility and access support
Benefits support - understanding letters from the benefits office
Digital inclusion - learning to use your phone safely to make payments and stay in touch with friends and family
Arts and Crafts - learn to do something new and improve wellbeing
