Today comrades were out supporting members of the RMT, who are on strike to protest against attacks on their working conditions, job cuts and paltry pay offers way under the current rate of inflation - a real time pay cut! Rail company bosses and the Tory government continue to place profit over the safety, wellbeing and dignity of key workers and the public, but workers in all industries are mobilising. Britain faces a summer of strikes - and Leeds comrades will be out showing our support and organising with workers!
We will be supporting the CWU BT strike on Friday and ALSEF workers on their strike day on the Saturday! - send us a DM to get involved!

The workers united will never be defeated!

Socialist Appeal comrades from Leeds were in Wakefield today supporting striking Arriva bus drivers organised with Unite who are fighting for better pay and working conditions.

The pickets were very impressive and well organised with near enough the full workforce out and reportedly some present on the pickets from as early as 3 in the morning! This is being replicated in a similar fashion elsewhere in the county at other Arriva depots for example in Dewsbury, Selby etc.

Striking workers told us about the poor pay (just £9.78 for new starters so barely above minimum wage) being simply not enough for the long hours and on the job abuse they often face.

These key workers were on the front lines keeping things running throughout the pandemic - they deserve better, particularly in the context of a rising cost of living crisis and rampant inflation.

The Issues at Arriva (just one of many private bus companies in the area) also highlights the need for public transport to be nationalised and ran democratically by the workers themselves.

Victory to striking bus drivers in West Yorkshire!
Victory to all workers up and down the country on strike, about to strike or balloting!

🚩 Join the Marxist bloc at the TUC demo on 18 June: www.socialist.net/tuc

As the profits of billionaires, bosses and bankers continue to rise, the working class is being squeezed by falling wages and a cost of living catastrophe.

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson and the Tory government stumble from one scandal to the next, all while siphoning off money to their big business pals - and offering nothing for ordinary working people.

The Trades Union Congress have organised a national demo on 18 June, which will see thousands of trade unionists and activists from across the country descend on London and march to Parliament Square to express their anger at this crisis - a crisis of the capitalist system.

But this must be the opening shot of a general offensive. The ‘new deal’ required for the working class is a bold socialist programme to solve the problems facing ordinary people.

This should include demands for nationalisation – without compensation – of the 100 biggest monopolies, banks, and insurance companies and placing these under workers’ control, as part of a socialist economic plan.

Coordinated, united action must be built for and launched across the union movement in order to fight for such a programme: to bring down this rotten Tory government; to bring down capitalism; and to bring the working class to power.

This is what Socialist Appeal - the Marxist voice of workers and youth - are fighting for, and these are the demands we will be raising at the TUC demo.

So if you want to join the Marxist bloc at the demo, sign up using this form: www.socialist.net/tuc
