When you're registering the birth of your baby you don't expect to be asked to witness a marriage! But that's exactly what happened a couple of weeks ago in Castle Hill🤍

When this lovely couple didn't have any witnesses for their ceremony, our team jumped into action and found some for them - in the form of 2 mums who were registering the birth of their babies! One of the mums was even one of our registrars daughters!🤩

Good work team!👏 Thank you to both mums and their adorable babies for helping, and congratulations to this wonderful couple🥰

Creating a community asset.

Comments from Hampshire County Councillor Graham Burgess on next steps after the very poor decision by HCC to close Lee and Elson libraries yesterday.

"Yesterday, I spent almost 5 hours taking part in meetings to keep both Elson and Lee Libraries from closure this December. I asked the members of the Select Committee to change the recommendation to close them. Gosport is one of the most densly populated areas on the south coast, it also has Assisted Area Status with the lowest number of jobs per head and is 70% built on.

The response to the consultation was the largest ever, over 21,000 responded, almost 1,000 from Lee,which was twice the average response. The options in the consultation both saved over £1M. Sadly they did not agree with me. We wanted Option 2, keep libraries open and reduce hours. The hours could have been made up by volunteers.

However, I have a meeting with the Head of Library Services to look in depth at what we in Lee on the Solent can do to keep the library open and use as a community hub, maintaining library services and expanding the uses of the building to the community. I have met with both the Lee Residents and Lee Business Associations and we are working together to achieve this goal. This goal will see the beginning of the ‘Lee Hub’.
