Angela Rayner withdraws reorganisation of councils in Hampshire

Angela Rayner, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, yesterday announced a Review of plans to streamline local government in many areas.

The Review includes withdrawing the decision on Hampshire and The Solent, in light of new legal advice.

To reassure local leaders and communities while this Review takes place, the Government confirmed that local elections in May 2027 will go ahead on existing Council boundaries.

The Government’s “Rewiring the State” White Paper on devolution will also set out plans to rewire the country and to ensure effective and sustainable local government in future.
Angela Rayner said: “As we are now determined more than ever to devolve power closer to the people we represent, it’s only right that, as the new Secretary of State, I make sure that everything we do is working towards that plan to change Britain.”

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said last week that he was “prepared to look at local government reorganisation” and he asked Angela Rayner to do that.

Angela Rayner said: “In that context, in light of legal advice, I want to satisfy myself firstly that the right process is in place, that it is robust, and, of course, complies with the law.

“And secondly I want to fully test whether our proposals for local government reorganisation meet the priorities of a new administration and the new Prime Minister and any additional considerations.

“I do not take this lightly,” she said. “I recognise the huge amount of work that has already gone into progressing reorganisation . . . and I am very grateful for it.”

I’m taking on the Twilight Runway Challenge at Blackbushe Airport next Saturday, 12 September, in aid of Rushmoor Voluntary Services (RVS), writes Alex Crawford.

With Lisa Greenway and hundreds of others, I’ll be walking along the runway while raising money for local charities.

RVS does so much for our community, supporting volunteers, local charities, and helping people across Rushmoor.

Every donation, big or small, will help support their amazing work.

If you’d like to sponsor me, I’d be so grateful.

Farnborough Airport plans to go direct to Planning Inspectorate

Rushmoor Borough Council did not determine the application to increase non-weekday flights within the statutory timeframe of six months.

However, there remain technical and legal aspects of the proposals that may make it very difficult to approve the application to increase non-weekday flights - hence the plan to go direct to the Planning Inspectorate.

Farnborough Airport has announced plans to seek a decision from the Planning Inspectorate on an application to increase non-weekday flights after it was not determined by Rushmoor Borough Council within the statutory timeframe.

Normal service over the Bank holiday, BUT our bin crews will be starting an hour earlier (6am) in this heat, please pop your bin out the night before, if you won't get it out just before 6am.

BANK HOLIDAY BINS AND HOT WEATHER ☀️

Our bin crews are working normally on Bank Holiday Monday so your bin collection day won't change next week.

With hot weather forecast, our crews will be also starting work an hour early so they can complete their rounds out of the midday sun. If you can, we would be grateful if you could put your bins out the night before, but by 6am on collection day.

You can always check which bins to put out on our bin collection day finder - see link in comments.
