We are launching the first Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust Five Year Carer Strategy this week, which coincides with Cares Week.

It sets out our key priorities and the commitments we are making within those priorities to improve the experience of carers. We developed the strategy in collaboration with carers of people who use our services, local supporting organisations, local authorities, neighbouring acute trust carer leads and staff from Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS trust.

This week 8th – 14th June it’s Carers Week, and this year’s theme is ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’ looking to highlight the impact carer friendly communities can have in making a real and lasting difference to the lives of carers everywhere.

The UK’s 5.8 million unpaid carers are the backbone of our communities. But carers are often overlooked, undervalued and unsupported.

We want to raise awareness of unpaid carers and highlight the important support they provide. For more information about our commitment to supporting carers and working in partnership with them see our website: https://bit.ly/49wcR6S

We know that life changes, like retirement or loss of independence, can affect mental wellbeing. We also know that many older adults find it difficult to reach out for support.

Mind Matters Surrey are now running talking therapy sessions for those older adults aged 55+ at Age UK Surrey’s Clockhouse Community Centre in Milford to:

Reduce barriers to accessing support

Offer a familiar place to talk

Help people feel more confident to ask for support

We’re here to help and you can refer yourself to get started: https://bit.ly/3ZePn0u
